Producers Of Smash Hit Movie Fanie Fourie’s Lobola Are Paying Big Lobola

The cross-cultural movie, Fanie Fourie’s Lobola, currently playing on nationwide cinema screens, has acquired a stash of its own Lobola in the form of strong reviews, increased box office, a host of awards, and a broad and vital fan base among new generation South Africans. In the spirit of Ubuntu the producers will be paying the Lobola for a happy couple who are ready to turn their love into marriage, and some lucky movie fans can choose their lobola in cash or a head of cattle.

Fanie Fourie’s Lobola is a funny and heart-warming love story between an Afrikaans Guy and a Zulu Girl. An arrangement which starts out as a wicked dare, takes an unexpected 360 degree turn into the real deal: complete and utter love, and the M word and that, calls for Tradition – but it’s complicated!

Henk Pretorius directs the romantic comedy starring newcomer, Zethu Dlomo, as “Dinky”, a gutsy, aspiring businesswoman who falls in love with the offbeat “Fanie”, played by Eduan van Jaarsveldt. Janine Eser, with Pretorius as co-writer, penned the screenplay which is inspired by Nape à Motana’s book of the same name.

The movie was made with the support of the National Film & Video Foundation mandated by the government to develop and promote South African film. It’s
produced by Out of Africa Entertainment, the production company behind
‘Schuks Tshabalala’s Survival to 2010’ and ‘The Bang Bang Club’. Out of Africa producing partners, Lance Samuels and Kweku Mandela, say: “The film is a bold and humorous mix of cross-cultural and class differences, family politics, and loads of cows. The broad appeal is the romantic ideal that true love can survive most obstacles.” Producer and co-writer, Janine Eser says, “It’s amazing to see how the film has exploded in social networking over the past few weeks. This is the new ‘word of mouth’ that is drving audiences to the cinema. Our most common comment about the film online is how it makes our audiences feel ‘proudly South African’.”
