Iron Man 3 Smahes In At Number One

With records already broken, Marvel’s Iron Man 3 smashed in at No.1 at the
South African Box Office this past weekend and has become the biggest 5-day opening weekend in history. The film hauled in a massive R13 394 393,00 from Wednesday 1 May through Sunday 5 May, including its R4 169 844,00 taking on Workers Day last week – which is the biggest opening and single day on record.

Audiences across the world also flocked to cinemas to see Robert Downey nr’s third outing as the iconic Marvel superhero, including the United States where it opened with a whopping $175.3 million according to studio estimates, giving it the second biggest opening weekend of all time, after 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers. Globally, Iron Man 3‘s Box Office takings have sky-rocketed to reach over $680 million.

Following the superhero mash-up of a lifetime, Marvel’s The Avengers, fans were clamouring to see what had become of Tony Stark after he, together with The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, The Black Widow and Thor, saved the world from alien invasion. Fans can look forward to more superhero action as Thor: The Dark World releases on 8 November 2013, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy releasing in 2014. 2015 welcomes The Avengers 2. There is certainly much more to come from the Marvel stable!

Marvel’s Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Marvel’s Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.

Marvel’s Iron Man 3 is currently open country-wide and is available in 3D in
select cinemas.
