This modern take on retro beach party movies stars Ross Lynch (of Disney Channel’s “Austin & Ally” and Hollywood Records’ R5) and Maia Mitchell (ABC Family’s upcoming “The Fosters”) as Brady and McKenzie, surfers who take the last wave of summer, one that mysteriously takes them into a classic beach party movie, Wet Side Story.

There, it’s surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout…and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance. Brady and McKenzie must try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever when they inadvertently change the movie’s romantic storyline — and the movie’s handsome surf guy, Tanner, is falling for McKenzie while biker girl Lela is swooning for Brady.

Teen Beach Movie also stars Grace Phipps (ABC Family’s “The Nine Lives of Chloe King”) as Lela, Garrett Clayton as Tanner, John Deluca as Butchy, Chrissie Fit (“General Hospital”) as Cheechee, with Tony Award-nominated Kevin Chamberlin (“Jessie,” Broadway’s “The Addams Family”) as Dr. Fusion and Steve Valentine (“Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie,” Disney XD’s “I’m In The Band”) as Les Camembe.

The film was written by Vince Marcello & Mark Landry (“Zombie Prom”) and Robert Horn (“Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure”). The movie is directed by DGA-nominated Jeffrey Hornaday (Disney Channel’s “Geek Charming,” choreographer of “A Chorus Line,” “Flashdance”) who also choreographed with Chris Scott (“Lemonade Mouth,” “Step Up 4,” “So You Think You Can Dance”). David Buelow (“Bring It On: Fight to the Finish”) serves as executive producer with Robert F. Phillips (“Teen Spirit,” “Valkyrie”) as producer. “Teen Beach Movie” is a production of Rainforest Productions, LLC.

10 Teen Beach Movie Facts

Pssst! Want to know 10 sizzling secrets about Disney Channel’s fab new film, Teen Beach Movie? You got it! We catch up with the star of the movie, Ross Lynch, to bring you the ultimate lowdown on the mega musical…

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET ONE…

THE FILM WAS SHOT IN PUERTO RICO!

Ross Lynch reveals: “I had the time of my life shooting Teen Beach Movie. We shot the action in Puerto Rico, which is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. It was awesome! We spent weeks filming on the beach, where we all had the best time in the world.”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET TWO…

THERE WERE IGUANAS RUNNING WILD ON THE SET!

“There were iguanas everywhere in Puerto Rico. They were huge! We’d be filming a scene and you’d spot one in the background. Or you’d head back to your trailer and there would be one sitting on the steps leading up to your door. The iguanas were up to six feet long, including their tail, but they weren’t scary. They just looked amazing!”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET THREE…

THE CAST WOULD JUMP INTO THE OCEAN BETWEEN TAKES!

“The sea was so warm in Puerto Rico. Whenever the crew had to set up a different shot, we’d jump into the water and have a cool swim. Sometimes it took them a really long time to reset the cameras, so it was the perfect time to dip into the sea for a break. It was bliss!”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET FOUR…

THE CAST STRUGGLED IN THE SAND!

“It was really tough to dance on the sand for some of the musical numbers. The sand would get everywhere and it’s not very nice. It’s a lot harder to dance around on a beach compared to an indoor set. It’s much more tiring, but it’s still a lot of fun, too.”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET FIVE…

ROSS SUFFERED SUNBURN… OUCH!

“I never ever get sunburnt, but I did in Puerto Rico during the first week of filming. The one time I go to a tropical island and I suffer as soon as I get there! I was pretty red, but thankfully I didn’t look like a lobster or anything. After the first week, I never got sunburnt again. I learned my lesson: wear sun lotion!”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET SIX…

THE MUSIC WAS RECORDED IN CALIFORNIA!

“We recorded all of the movie’s music in California before heading off to Puerto Rico for the film shoot. We had such a great time working on the music! The soundtrack is really well produced and there are loads of cool songs. What’s my favourite? Probably a track called Cruisin’ For A Bruisin’. It’s a really great song!”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET SEVEN…

THE LEAD ACTRESS IS AUSTRALIAN!

Teen Beach Movie is about a girl and a guy called Mac and Brady. I play the role of Brady and an actress called Maia Mitchell plays Mac. Maia is Australian, but her American accent in the movie is awesome! It was really funny to hear her slip back to her natural Australian accent when we weren’t working – but you’d never know she was Australian when you see the finished film.”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET EIGHT…

THERE WERE PARTIES ON THE BEACH!

“After we finished work for the day, we’d usually head to the beach with our guitars. We’d jam and have a party on the beach, which was really cool. Everyone in the cast is really musical, so it would be the perfect way to end the day.”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET NINE…

THE ON-SET FOOD ROCKED!

“The food in Puerto Rico was amazing. During the movie shoot, my favourite on-set snack was a yellow pudding. I’ve got no idea what it was called, but it was delicious. Whenever you ate one, they’d put another one out – so it was never ending; and I couldn’t stop eating them. How would I describe the dish? Well, it was like a banana pudding wrapped in dough. I guess it’s something like a Danish pastry, but from Puerto Rico. Seriously, it was the best.”

TEEN BEACH MOVIE SECRET TEN…

ROSS TROD ON A SEA URCHIN DURING THE FILM SHOOT!

“My feet didn’t have the best time in Puerto Rico. There was a lot of dancing, so they were used a lot – but I also had a couple of mishaps. At one point, I trod on a sea urchin, which was really painful. Oh, and I also lost a toenail! My feet were basically messed up, but it was all worth it. The movie looks amazing. Plus, they feel perfectly fine now!”
