Much Anticipated Afrikaans Film Premieres April

Die WindpompCape Town film producer Chris Roland asked the question, “What does the Afrikaans community want?” The answer was a “Hollywood” movie set in South Africa, and in Afrikaans. When Roland came across the story for Die Windpomp, he was instantly convinced it had the right elements to give the Afrikaans community what it wanted.

From the makers of Stander and Hotel Rwanda comes what many are already calling the best Afrikaans film ever made, starring Ian Roberts, Marga van Rooy, and Grethe Fox, and hot newcomers Leandie Du Randt, Armand Greyling and Sean-Marco Vorster.

Written and directed by Etienne Fourie, who also wrote Klein Karoo, Die Windpomp revolves around 20 year old Hendri’s (Armand Greyling) quirky, colourful story that happens one summer in his grandfather’s retirement village. Against the backdrop of garden ornaments, bingo nights and the weird and wonderful behaviour of the elderly, Hendri befriends a kind but nosey neighbour, Tannie Marietjie (Marga van Rooy) and her two closest mates, Rossouw and Miggie (Ian Roberts and Grethe Fox). It’s only when Hendri meets Margot (Leandie du Randt) and falls head over heels in love, thats this sleepy village starts to wake up. But all is not as it seems. There are secrets Hendri could have never imagined.

Die Windpomp releases on April 25th and is distributed by Times Media Films.
