3 Days To Kill: Review

Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner), a seasoned CIA operative, longs to spend more time with his estranged wife and teenage daughter. Fate, however, steps in, and Ethan not only finds out he is terminally ill, but is duped in to performing one last, dangerous mission by Vivi Delay (Amber Heard), in the process  he juggles hunting a ruthless terrorist with looking after his daughter.

Costner delivers a powerful performance, reminding us of a character on the other end of the pole, whom he played in the 1993 film A Perfect World, bringing much of the heart-warming moments to Ethan. Heard plays the sexy, cold minx, a type of role she seems to not only enjoy, but excel at.

3 Days To Kill is not about action, although it has it’s fair share, but it’s about life, family, and the choices we make, whether through loyalty or need that will affect those relationships.

Action scenes are fun, yet not over the top in their realism. There is a dry humour present too, making for some funny moments, which one almost feels guilty about laughing at. The story is simple enough, and while it won’t tax your brain, it’s a great escape as you are sucked into the issues and choices Ethan has to make.

3 Days To Kill is a fun movie, which should appeal to a wide audience. A fun bit of action, comedy and drama. It opens 1 May 2014 in South Africa.
