Free Birds (DVD): Review

The Film

Free Birds, the story of two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks. They team up, and travel back in time, hoping to change the course of history, and get turkey off the holiday menu.

The story is multi-layered, catering for the younger viewers on one level, and parents and adults on another. While it’s an intelligent plot, there is not an abundance of twists and turns.

Reggie (Owen Wilson) and Jake (Woody Harrelson) travel back in time using S.T.E.V.E (George Takei), meeting up with Jenny (Amy Poehler). With this cast of voice artists, the characters come alive on screen, and endear themselves to the viewer, pulling you in to the story. This coupled with the detailed animation, and entertaining story makes for an enjoyable film that is sure to be watched again and again by the younger audience.

Free Birds, a fun romp though time, with some crazy turkeys.

The Disc

The disc is encoded at a high bitrate, meaning it can be scaled up to HD without any visible artefacts. The sound stage will make good use of your surrounds, further drawing you in to the in-screen events. There are, however, sadly no bonus features on the disc.

Free Birds is available to purchase in South African stores now.
