The Film
Almost every South African has heard about businessman Brett Kebble, and the many shocking stories and conspiracy theories surrounding his murder. 204: Getting Away With Murder tries to dispel some of those claims, and attempts to look at the facts, through interviews and reenactments.
The content is sure to be of interest to many South Africans, and ex pats alike. Unfortunately, the packaging of this information is not what it should, or could have been. It feels more like a film school project, where the editor has tried a collection of presets, rather than a professional documentary.
If you can get past the ammeter look and feel of the editing and creative choices, at the heart of it, there is some great content. Interviews by the alleged perpetrators do shed light on the fact that under the right circumstances, the smaller fish can get away with murder, when there are bigger fish to fry.
Disc And Bonus Features
The disc is encoded at a high bitrate, however some creative choices mean that archive news footage looks worse that what it could. Most of the soundtrack is dialogue, so the centre speaker on any theatre system will be dominant.
Bonus features include an EPK (which is basically a behind the scenes featurette), and a music video, which considering the subject matter of the main feature, does feel rather out of place.
204: Getting Away With Murder is available now to purchase, on disc, in SA.
