Die Windpomp Heads To The USA, Again

The multiple award-winning and much loved Afrikaans fantasy love story Die Windpomp has been selected into the Long Beach International Film Festival in New York. Die Windpomp will be screening amongst 50 internationally acclaimed films that will compete for a series of Jury, Festival Honors and Audience Awards from September 24 – 27 2015.

Explains Producer Chris Roland of ZenHQ Films; “Die Windpomp screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The organizers of the Long Beach Fest saw the screening, and invited us to submit. We’re thrilled to have been accepted.” Producer Lee-Ann Cotton adds: “This very special film is spreading quickly by word of mouth and is proving to be popular with the American viewers.”
Die Windpomp screened for the first time in the US at the Sonoma International Film Festival in California earlier this year. Like at Sonoma, Die Windpomp will screen under its English title The Windmill, a translation that raises eyebrows but sounded better than The Windpump!

Written and directed by Etienne Fourie, Die Windpomp revolves around a summer romance between Hendri (Armand Greyling) and Margot (Leandie du Randt), two young people living in a retirement village, with an unexpected twist.

Die Windpomp walked away with five KykNet Silwerskermfees awards in 2014: Best Film, Best Director (Etienne Fourie), Best Screenplay (Etienne Fourie), Best Original music (Johnny de Ridder) and Best Supporting Actress (Marga van Rooy). Roland and Cotton are hoping for a win at Long Beach, which will add to bringing awareness to US audiences ahead of its US release.
