4DX pushes the limits of cinema to its ultimate pinnacle. The 3D visuals on-screen, along with Dolby 7.1 surround sound, are enhanced to the max with effects targeted to submerge the viewer in a fully immersive sensory experience – including wind, water, smells, moving seats, lightning effects and lots more.

BEN-HUR in 4DX literally transports the viewer to the ancient Roman Empire – it comes as close to actually getting on a horse, picking a sword and joining the battle. This remake of the classic film about bravery and vengeance between two brothers updates the movie with eye-popping visual effects, pulse-racing action and gripping drama. 4DX enhances the cinema experience even further – re-positioning it for a new generation of adrenalin junkies.

ben-hur-posterThe film tells the epic tale of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery on a galley at sea. When fate brings the estranged brothers to an epic and deadly chariot race, Ben-Hur finally gets the chance to exact vengeance on the man who destroyed his life. But, an encounter with Jesus (Rodrigo Santoro) leads him to the Crucifixion, where he discovers forgiveness and finds redemption. The film also stars Morgan Freeman as Ilderim.

SUICIDE SQUAD and STAR TREK BEYOND are currently showing (until this Thursday) in the 4DX cinemas at Nu Metro V&A Waterfront and Nu Metro The Pavilion, until BEN-HUR starts showing in both 4DX cinemas from Friday – exclusive to Nu Metro.

4DX, which uses motion, vibration, water, wind, lightning, scents, and more to provide moviegoers with a truly multi-sensory movie experience, has been expanding at a fast pace locally. The end of September heralds the opening of Gauteng’s first ever 4DX cinema at the newly revamped Nu Metro Hyde Park.

This news follows the overwhelming success of Africa’s first two 4DX cinemas at Nu Metro V&A Waterfront and The Pavilion. Strong public demand will now be answered with the launch of this one-of-a-kind, multi-dimensional cinema experience in Johannesburg – giving Gauteng a cinema outing like nothing they’ve ever heard, felt, seen and even smelt before, exclusive to Nu Metro.

The films screened in 4DX are projected in HD/2D and Digital 3D on a silver curved wall-to-wall screen. Its audio system has been upgraded to a Dolby CP750 with 7.1 full surround sound. The Barco projector used in the cinema also uses an upgraded lamp for brighter picture in both 2D and 3D.
