The quiet life of a young dog named Max (Louis C.K.) is upended when his owner, Katie (Ellie Kemper), takes in a stray, Duke (Eric Stonestreet), whom Max instantly dislikes.
The Secret Life Of Pets comes to us from Illumination Entertainment, the same production company who brought us Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, and Minions, so audiences are in for a taste of the same quips and humour. There is something for everyone, both young and old, with a wide variety of humour. Some of these items do fly past a touch on the quick side, so viewers wouldn’t want to turn away, perhaps not even blink.
The Secret Life Of Pets is a charming, feel good story. The plot isn’t too complex, so as to lose the interest of the youngest of audience members, yet is still has a story on a level that would keep most adults engrossed.
The characters are imaginative and diverse, mimicking the society and population of New York, where the story is set. And speaking of setting, the construction of the city in this animated tale is superb, bringing some astounding visuals to life on screen.
The film takes viewers on a fast paced ride, meeting a plethora of weird and wonderful creatures and characters along the way, from the meeting with Duke, to the inevitable happy ending some time later.
The Secret Life Of Pets is a charming, fun film. It has laughs and a great story, leaving the viewer feeling good having enjoyed a fun piece of escapism along the way. A film for the whole family, and one that is sure to keep young one’s enthralled.
