The five Sharks in M-Net and Telkom SA’s s new Sunday night reality show Shark Tank South Africa are hungry for business deals, but they are extremely finicky about the items on the menu. To date, only two of the Sharks – marketing guru Gil Oved and tech mogul Vinny Lingham – have delved into their own pockets to support entrepreneurs who stepped into the tank. Will their fellow Sharks Marnus Broodryk, Dawn Nathan-Jones and Romeo Kumalo follow suit this week Sunday at 18:00?
During the first two episodes the Sharks made it clear that they were looking for budding entrepreneurs who know their numbers, can upscale their ideas and deliver a return on their investments in the near future. Passion and the drive to succeed also played a significant role when Gil and Vinny decided to partner with Vusi Ravele and Sarah Jeffreys respectively. It also helped that the Sharks loved their products! Vusi’s business is built on a unique line of home and décor items, while Sarah is the brain behind comfy, good-looking rocking chairs for mothers with babies.
This week, the Sharks encounter some smart entrepreneurs with crazy yet functional products. An experienced marketer has a revolutionary plan that will minimise chaos at cemeteries. Then there’s a savvy lady who believes that the millions of birthdays celebrated every month will make the Sharks loads of money and a guy whose app might be the solution to many parents’ biggest headache: kids struggling with maths. And, what will happen when the Sharks are thrown biltong as bait? Some of them just happen to be vegetarians!
