A Halloween Marathon Of Horror On TCM

Everyone loves a good classic movie scare. TCM – Powered by Movies (DStv channel 137) has all the right ingredients to keep you glued to your screen and on the edge of your seat, as the popular movie channel dishes out an overdose of some of the best horror films on the scariest night in October!

“Yes, we are talking Halloween! We are serving up a 24-hour marathon of all your scary favourites, to satisfy even the most hardened lovers of the horror film genre. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!” says Guillermo Farré, General Entertainment Content Director, Turner Africa.

Movie fanatics can be part of the Halloween marathon from 30 – 31 October, with such horror classics as The Vanishing (03:00), an American psychological thriller starring Hollywood hotties Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland, Nancy Travis and Sandra Bullock. This remake of the 1988 Franco-Dutch film is directed by George Sluizer. As the drama unfolds, the boyfriend of an abducted woman does not give up the search for his girlfriend, even as the abductor looks on.

Another all-time favourite that is included in the line-up is Beetlejuice (07:55; 22:50) – what would a Halloween festival be without a film directed by the renowned Tim Burton. In this comedy fantasy, a couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of a ‘bio-exorcist’ to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.

Don’t miss the return of the Gremlins, in Gremlins 2: The New Batch (11:20). Where the original Gremlins was a horror film spiked with comedy, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, directed by Joe Dante, is essentially a black comedy, with a couple of horrifying touches. As the film starts, the fantastical trinket shop in Chinatown, which sold the Mogwai in the first film, is demolished by a crazed multi-media businessman called Daniel Clamp (John Glover). The heroes from the first movie, Billy (Zach Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates), happen to work for Clamp in his huge high-rise. They find the Mogwai within Clamp’s building, but not before he has accidentally spawned legions of mischievous, lizard-like Gremlins. Soon, the Gremlins are wreaking havoc throughout the building.

For those who can’t get enough of the ghosties and ghouls and things that go bump in the night, there’s a whole host of Halloween movies you can catch on TCM (DStv channel 137). So, get up close, cosy and comfy on the couch with your besties… watching this movie marathon on your own is not advised!
