Seventy years before Harry Potter started studying at Hogwarts, magic was being made half a world away in 1926 New York. The much-anticipated film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, from the creator of Harry Potter, promises to take audiences to a whole new era in J.K. Rowling’s world of wizards and wizardry, magic, muggles… and some rather fantastic beasts!

The film releases at Ster-Kinekor cinemas countrywide, in 2D, 3D, Cine Prestige and IMAX® 3D, on Friday, 25 November. But, for those who simply can’t wait till then, Ster-Kinekor has magically lined up special pre-screenings at its seven IMAX cinemas for the maximum movie experience. The pre-screenings are scheduled for two shows only – at 14:15 and 20:00 – on Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 November. To book for these shows, just wave your magic wand and call up www.movies.sterkinekor.co.za… It’s as easy as ‘abracadabra’!

The IMAX® 3D release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customised theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are part of the wizarding world of 1926 New York!

Exclusively in IMAX® 3D, key visual 3D effects from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will break beyond the widescreen frame line to take full advantage of the IMAX screen. The filmmakers used this effect to enhance the IMAX® 3D presentation for a more immersive, engaging and fun audience experience.

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) stars in the central role as Magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter blockbusters. This film also marks the screenplay debut of author J.K. Rowling, whose “Harry Potter” books have created a global phenomenon following their adaptation into the top-grossing film franchise of all time.

Also starring in the film are Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs) as Tina, Dan Fogler as the No-Maj Jacob Kowalski, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, Samantha Morton and Colin Farrell.

The year is 1926, and Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find, document and rescue an extraordinary array of magical creatures, some of which are safeguarded in the hidden dimensions of his deceptively nondescript leather suitcase.

Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds. Newt and his band of unlikely heroes find themselves on a collision course with the dark forces that could push the wizarding the No-Maj worlds to the brink of war…
