Super Sunday On The M-Net Channels

Settle down for the M-Net Channels’ Super Sunday this weekend:
New acting talent, word whizzes, savvy Sharks and two blockbuster premieres provide great entertainment

mnet101

December is here and M-Net is bringing out all the bells and whistles. This Sunday, 4 December, the home of magic – Channel 101 – boasts a superb line-up from 17:00 until late, while M-Net Movies Premiere will screen an additional blockbuster premiere movie and showcase the amazing acting talent that came out tops in the channel’s Greatest Movie Ever Made campaign.

Spellbound

Kicking off the Super Sunday line-up on M-Net 101 is the next instalment of the family-friendly game show Spellbound, where the competition has graduated to the next level. After last week’s show, which featured some pint-sized brainiac primary school contestants, this week, a group of high school learners from around the country will battle it out for the title of super speller, as well as for some hard-earned cash for themselves and their schools. Who will make the G-R-A-D-E? Viewers can tune in at 17:00 sharp to find out, and to test their own spelling skills from the comfort of their own couches.

Shark Tank South Africa

There won’t be any need to budge from those couches, however, as an hour later at 18:00, sparks will fly like never before in the tenth episode of M-Net’s trend-worthy entrepreneurial reality show Shark Tank SA. This week the Sharks are faced with some bold and even confrontational business owners and inventors who are brazen enough to square up to the vicious investors. Amongst the diverse range of business owners this week are the Durban Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneur of the Year for 2014, a microbiologist who has his sights set on controlling the clock, two ninjas looking to show off their sweet skills in the tank, and a family with an idea designed to literally hook a hungry Shark. As always, the wealthy investors take no prisoners as they dish out some valuable advise as well as cold, hard truths.

Carte Blanche

M-Net’s longest-running and award-winning investigative journalism programme Carte Blanche follows on the heels of Shark Tank SA with some hard-hitting stories that viewers have the right to know. At the top of every local news headline for the past week was the story that President Zuma’s leadership was this week, for the first time, openly challenged from within the ANC. In an unprecedented move members of the National Executive Committee debated a motion of no confidence, supported by party heavyweights. Carte Blanche’s Bongani asks: though it ultimately failed, what will the impact of this body blow to President Jacob Zuma be? Sticking with politics, the long life of controversial Cuban leader Fidel Castro ended last week when he died aged 90. Castro’s longstanding support for Africa’s liberation movements made him a hero in the eyes of many here at home. As President Zuma travels to Cuba to attend Castro’s funeral, Carte Blanche delves into how our friendship with Cuba’s radical leader shaped post-apartheid South Africa and how his death will impact our foreign policies in Latin America.

These must-see stories, amongst others, will air from 19:00.

Two Sunday night blockbuster premieres

And if that was not enough entertainment to choose from, M-Net will up the entertainment ante yet again with fantastic additions to its movie offering. In future, DStv Premium customers will be treated to two blockbuster premieres on a Sunday night. This week Sunday, Vacation will premiere on M-Net 101 at 20:05, while M-Net Movies Premiere will be the first to screen The Night Before. Due to the high age restriction of this movie, however, it will only be screened at 21:00.

The Greatest Movie Ever Made

Finally, “The Greatest Movie Ever Made” short film will finally hit our screens on Sunday too! The competition started when M-Net Movies invited viewers from across Africa to submit a video online with entrants acting out a scene from one of their favourite films on the M-Net Movies channels. Once the hordes of submissions had been narrowed down to the best of the best, 17 aspiring actors received the opportunity to hone their skills with intensive acting workshops led by top local directors Akin Omotoso, A.K. and Peter Heaney. From there, the Top 6 clinched parts in “The Greatest Movie Ever Made”, a unique and fun-filled short half an hour film which will make its on-air debut on M-Net Movies Premiere on Sunday at 17:20.
