‘Rogue One’ Heralds A Cinema First For Africa In Cape Town

Nu Metro Cinemas continues to pioneer the evolution of world-class cinema quality with Africa’s first ever Laser Projection-cinema and a screen which epitomizes “Biggest is Best” – to be launched next Wednesday, 14 December as part of Cape Town’s new Scene Xtreme-cinema at Nu Metro Canal Walk.

This cutting-edge new cinema, the first ever Scene Xtreme outside Gauteng, officially boasts the biggest cinema screen in the Western Cape!

It will also be the first cinema in the city to feature the top-of-the-range Dolby Atmos sound system – making it only the 3rd Dolby Atmos-cinema in South Africa. Dolby Atmos is all-around 360 degrees-sound, including overhead speakers – a complete improvement on the limitations of current cinema sound.

Scene Xtreme at Nu Metro Canal Walk will launch to public with a special pre-release screening of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY on Wednesday, 14 December 2016 at 20:00 – ahead of the film’s official South African release on 15 December. This means South Africans get an opportunity to see this new blockbuster two days before the US and most other countries internationally – now also with an enhanced level of Scene Xtreme-quality on an Extra Large Format-screen.

Cape Town joins the Scene Xtreme-family of superior visual and sound quality along with the other Xtreme cinemas at Nu Metro Menlyn Park (Pretoria), Clearwater Mall (Johannesburg) and The Glen (Johannesburg). Apart from world-class sound and visuals onscreen, all Xtreme cinemas also feature luxury recliner seating.

Laser projection at Scene Xtreme Canal Walk represents the most advanced form of digital projection technology available for the global cinema market. Its next generation-precision is a significant step-up on standard projection technologies, which use electric lamps to project images onscreen. Laser projection ensures crisp, bright and finely detailed images on the Big Screen at all times and is clearly distinguishable.

Scene Xtreme-cinemas are able to showcase films in full 4K Ultra High Definition-glory (UHD) on a giant screen. 4K UHD is the highest resolution-quality, but is even further enhanced by the precision and quality of the laser projector at Xtreme Canal Walk – which also significantly increases the onscreen quality of standard 2K films.

Standard movie shows are in 2K HD – 4K therefore means double the digital perfection, bringing viewers as close as possible to experiencing what they see onscreen in virtual reality.

4K Ultra High-Definition releases require an extended mastering process, in order to perfect the film’s visuals to the highest standards of quality. 4K UHD presents viewers with a visual masterpiece – delivering images that literally pop out of the screen. The reproduction and ultimate projection of 4K UHD require lots of technical expertise to present cinemagoers with an ultra-real delight of visual splendor.

Another aspect of the Scene Xtreme experience is the latest in sound technology. Scene Xtreme at Nu Metro Canal Walk is the first cinema in Cape Town with Dolby Atmos sound – delivering all-around 3D-sound through the most advanced cinema sound system available.

Atmos-soundtracks condense multiple levels of audio objects and moves away from the concept of “channels” for “stereo” or “surround”. The audio objects are processed with precision through an increased amount of speakers all around the cinema, including overhead speakers, combined with crystal clear digital reproduction – enabling sound objects to literally be moved around in 3D space.

Dolby Atmos is considered to be the best cinema audio system currently available on the market; and is also the preferred choice of sound for acclaimed Hollywood film directors who rely on Atmos to effectively convey their movie to audiences as intended. The above-spec speaker-systems installed in all Scene Xtreme-cinemas guarantee an experience of movie sound without comparison.

This ultra-realistic audiovisual Scene Xtreme-experience is further enhanced through RealD’s Precision White Screen-technology (PWS) – delivering a much sharper, brighter and more realistic image compared to other standard cinema screens.
