Be The First In The World To See “Rogue One” In 4DX & Xtreme

Nu Metro has confirmed that it will be screening the highly-anticipated blockbuster ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY in fully immersive style, a day before the film’s South African release date, in its Scene Xtreme and 4DX cinemas nationwide this Wednesday, 14 December at 20:00.

The screenings for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY will take place in multi-sensory 4DX at Nu Metro Hyde Park (Johannesburg), The Pavilion (Durban) and V&A Waterfront (Cape Town).

The new Scene Xtreme cinema at Nu Metro Canal Walk (Cape Town) and Scene Xtreme at Nu Metro Menlyn Park (Pretoria) will showcase this highly anticipated new blockbuster with full 360 degrees, all around-sound and Ultra High Definition-quality on a giant screen (including laser projection at Xtreme Canal Walk). Scene Xtreme cinemas also feature luxury recliner-seating.

ROGUE ONE is the eighth film in the Star Wars-franchise but the first to step outside the narrative of the other seven films in a standalone story set shortly before the events of 1977’s original STAR WARS — though Darth Vader, the Galactic Empire and The Death Star remain key elements. It follows a group of rebel spies trying to steal the schematics for the Empire’s Death Star.

These special pre-release screenings of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY in Nu Metro’s Scene Xtreme and 4DX cinemas on Wednesday take place ahead of the film’s general South African release on Thursday, 15 December. This means Nu Metro is giving fans an opportunity to see the movie two days before the US and most other countries internationally – with an enhanced level of Scene Xtreme-quality on an Extra Large Format-screen, or with the added 4DX multi-sensory effect.

Nu Metro’s revolutionary, multi-dimensional 4DX cinemas employ motion, vibration, water, wind, lightning, scents, and more to create a truly mind-blowing experience – giving cinemagoers an adrenaline-fuelled, multi-sensory, digital 4D movie experience like nothing they have ever heard, seen, felt or even smelled before!

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY in 4DX is filled with dynamic and kinetic depictions of huge battle sequences. Tilting-forward and -backward movements are deployed to give a feeling of free-floating in the X-Wing fighter plane during spectacular battle scenes. Air shots and tickler effects add to the thrill-factor for the fire-fight with stormtroopers – accompanied by swirling wind and deep vibrations from the motion chair. And, when the Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star, is about to unleash its superpower and the group of rebels tries to fight back with all their might, the combination of 4DX effects such as fog, water and scents perfectly work in harmony to add another layer of immersive reality to the film.

Nu Metro Cinemas continues to pioneer the evolution of world-class cinema quality with Africa’s first ever Barco Laser Projection-cinema, along with a cinema screen which screams “Massive” – to be launched on Wednesday with these ROGUE ONE-screenings as part of Cape Town’s new Scene Xtreme-cinema at Nu Metro Canal Walk.

This cutting-edge new cinema, the first ever Scene Xtreme outside Gauteng, officially boasts the biggest cinema screen in the Western Cape! It will also be the first cinema in the city to feature the top-of-the-range Dolby Atmos sound system – making it only the 3rd Dolby Atmos-cinema in South Africa. Dolby Atmos is all-around 3D-sound, including overhead speakers – a complete improvement on the limitations of current “surround” cinema sound.

Scene Xtreme-cinemas are able to showcase films in full 4K Ultra High Definition-glory (UHD) on a giant screen. 4K UHD is the highest resolution-quality, but is even further enhanced by the precision and quality of the Barco laser projector at Xtreme Canal Walk – which also significantly increases the onscreen quality of standard 2K films. Standard movie shows are in 2K HD – 4K therefore means double the digital perfection, bringing viewers as close as possible to experiencing what they see onscreen in virtual reality.

The screening at Nu Metro Menlyn Park (Pta) will be accompanied by a Hot Toys activation and will also feature special guest appearances from a few very special Star Wars-cosplay characters.
