Whatever your favourite kind of movie is, Ster-Kinekor is inviting you to share the experience – and all the emotions that go with that movie – with others. Maybe it’s that first ‘butterflies in the tummy’ excitement of a first date, or it’s a night out with the guys or sharing a special time with your besties, or enjoying some fun family time together… you get to choose the movie and you get to choose who you want to sit #SidebySide with.
#SidebySide for Family Fun…
The fun starts with some great kids’ movies – and there’s nothing stopping the kid in all of us from enjoying them too! These titles give us the chance to sit back, relax and just chill out with family and friends for a few hours – and isn’t that what being on holiday is all about? Pretend you are living the life on an exotic Polynesian island with the delightful new Disney animated film, Moana.
Or, follow the antics of man and beast on another exotic island as an outgoing parrot and his quirky animal companions befriend the marooned Robinson Crusoe in the animated Robinson Crusoe / The Wildlife Life. When their harmonious lives are disrupted by two savage cats, they discover the true power of friendship against all odds. Both these animation films are currently screening – side-by-side – at Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationally.
The youngsters – and the young at heart – have two more fabulous holiday fare to look out for. Staying with the world of animated animals, Sing serenades its way onto the big screen in 3D from Friday, 23 December. But, you can catch it first with special pre-screenings at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas for all shows, only on Friday, 16 December. A dapper koala, Buster Moon (voiced by Matthew McConaughey), has one final chance to restore his fading theatre to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition… and five lead contestants emerge to battle it out, ‘Idols’-style!
Dancing its way onto the magical screen in the New Year, from Friday 06 January, is Ballerina. This 3D animation film is set in 1879 Paris, and tells the story of an orphaned girl who dreams of becoming a ballerina. She flees her rural Brittany for Paris, where she passes for someone else and accedes to the position of pupil at the Grand Opera house. The perfect movie to enjoy #SidebySide with your dance partner!
All-out action #SidebySide with the boys…
If hanging out with the boys is more your style, the choice of action-packed movies to watch #SidebySide include some of the most anticipated releases of the year. Things are hotting up in the code-defying Inferno starring Tom Hanks in Dan Brown’s latest thriller.
The Star Wars fans have been shining up their lightsabres in anticipation of this week’s release of the all-new epic adventure, Rogue One – A Star Wars Story, the first standalone film from the internationally successful Star Wars franchise. The film releases in South Africa on 15 December, a day before its US release and, to appreciate all the in-your-face special effects, this one is a must-see in IMAX, with its full-on IMAX 3D Experience.
If gaming is more your thing, make sure you know who is at your side before going to watch Assassin’s Creed from 21 December (in 2D and 3D): you don’t want to mix with the enemy – the all-powerful Templars – if you are an Assassin. Starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons, the battle for supremacy has begun…
