Golden Globe Winner For Girls’ Night Out

Nu Metro Cinemas will be hosting South Africa’s first ever pre-release screenings of record-breaking Golden Globe-winner LA LA LAND, as part of Girls’ Night Out, next Thursday, 19 January 2017 at 20:00. This means that cinemagoers nationwide (albeit ladies only) can see the film more than a week before its general release date of 27 January.

These special screenings of LA LA LAND next Thursday will form part of Nu Metro’s first ladies-only pre-release screening event for 2017, Girls’ Night Out (GNO).

LA LA LAND launched this year’s awards-season in glorious style by breaking the record for the most Golden Globe Awards, winning seven prizes. It won every award it was nominated for – including Best Picture (Musical or Comedy ), Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Score and Best Song. And, now, Nu Metro is giving ladies across South Africa a first look at what all the fuss is about.

Apart from the GNO-screenings for LA LA LAND at all Nu Metro cinemas nationwide next Thursday, Nu Metro will also be hosting special sneak pre-release screenings of the film next Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 January 2017 (all shows daily) at the following cinemas: Bedfordview (Jhb), Canal Walk (CT), Clearwater (Jhb), Hyde Park (Jhb), Parkview (Pta), The Pavilion (Dbn), V&A Waterfront (CT) and Walmer Park (PE). These screenings are open to all cinemagoers, for everyone to enjoy the allure of this striking new musical.

LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams. It is a highflying musical filled with euphoria, in the magical tradition of Hollywood classics, but it also has a distinct 21st Century energy to seduce contemporary audiences. It is guaranteed to get everyone tapping their feet to the infectious music; be mesmerised by its immaculate style, top-notch acting, touching story, brilliant screenplay and truly memorable ambience.

The film has been praised by critics everywhere as the standout film of the year. “LA LA LAND serves to remind us that movies can still be magical, and they can still provide the channel for us to see magic in the world around us. It’s not so much another day in the sun, as the characters sing in that opening number, but the dreams of the night before, the ones we wake up and try to fulfil, that keep us dancing,” writes Brian Tallerico for RogerEbert.com

The GNO-screenings of LA LA LAND will take place at all Nu Metro Cinemas nationwide next Thursday (19 January). The event starts at 19:00, with the film screening at 20:00. Apart from women being treated to the Golden Globe-winning film ahead of general release, there are lots of extras to look forward to on the night as well.

The general sneak pre-release screenings will take place next Saturday and Sunday (21-22 January).

Please note that access to Girls’ Night Out-screenings at Nu Metro’s cinemas is open to women only, but the sneak previews next weekend are open to all cinemagoers.

To book tickets to see LA LA LAND at Nu Metro’s Girls’ Night Out (19 January at 20:00; all cinemas), the sneak pre-release screenings (21-22 January, all shows daily, selected cinemas) or the film’s general release from 27 January (all shows daily; selected cinemas), click here or call 0861 246 362.
