Stars Shine On The Red Carpet At “Love By Chance” Movie Premier

Local and visiting celebrities were out in all their finery at last night’s Hyde Park Nu Metro premiere of the delightful comedy ‘Love by Chance’, a South African-US co-production starring local favourite Atandwa Kani, and the gorgeous Altovise Lawrence, winner of ‘Top Actor South Africa’, in the lead roles. Man of the moment Kani, who has just been cast in Marvel’s upcoming superhero film The Black Panther, flew to Johannesburg from New York just in time for the glitzy event.

Also on the red carpet at the state-of-the-art cinema complex were the film’s director Samad Davis, an award winning international film producer and director from the US, and three of the film’s American stars, actress and producer Terri J Vaughn, comedian Desi Banks and actress and author Ja’el Roberson.

Terri J Vaughn, Ja’el Robeson and Altovise Lawrence were all dressed by renowned local designers Quiteria & George, couturiers to A-List celebrities.

The film tells the story of two South African actors who are independently in America, trying to break into an extremely difficult and over saturated Hollywood industry. They find themselves in the Hollywood of the South, Atlanta, Georgia aka “Hotlanta,” following their dream, one audition after another. But nothing comes easy.

Director Davis describes ‘Love by Chance’ as a pioneering film because it brings together US and South African talent and bridges cultural and continental divides against the backdrop of a love story.

MC for the event was Dineo Moeketsi, who wore a gorgeous black number for the evening. She welcomed the US guests onto the red carpet and introduced the film to the audience. The South African producers of ‘Love by Chance’ Dumi Gumbi and Catharina Weinek were also in attendance.

Gumbi recounted the story behind the making of the film: “We are extremely proud to host our American guests tonight. We met Samad at the premiere of our previous movie ‘Mrs Right Guy’, and he said he would like to work with us on a film that would bring together South African and American talent. A year later and here we are celebrating the wonderful cast and the great production team that made it all happen. This was our first movie together, but it will certainly not be our last.”

‘Love by Chance’ opens in South Africa on 5 May 2017, and is distributed by Indigenous Film Distribution.
