Zuma: the final straw?

He was invited to give the key-note speech at one of the ANC’s tripartite alliance partners’ Workers day rallies in the Free State. But instead, embattled President Jacob Zuma was forced to abandon his moment in the spotlight. Booed, heckled and whisked away in his motorcade, workers attending the Cosatu rally rejected him, demanding that he step down as the country’s commander in chief. As the pressure mounts, Carte Blanche asks: what’s really keeping Zuma in power?

Mammaprint

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among South African women. For some, chemotherapy with its toxic side effects is the only route – but finding out whether or not you require chemo, is often a guessing game. Now with precision genomic testing, the DNA of cancer cells in the breast tissue can be analysed. Carte Blanche explores how the Mammaprint test could save some patients with early stage cancer, from having to go through the rigors of chemotherapy.

Eskom Coal Contracts

Eskom has consistently denied that they have given the Gupta-owned company Tegeta Exploration and Resources any special favours. But the State of Capture report tabled by the public protector last year, called for further investigation into their coal contracts. Now, a leaked draft, report from Treasury, has recommended that a forensic audit firm investigates why Eskom continues to give preferential treatment to Tegeta. Carte Blanche digs into the dirty business of coal contracts.
