3D Face Implants
Last year Belinda Dzambo was diagnosed with a tumour of the jawbone, leaving her swollen, disfigured and in desperate need of surgery. Now with developments in 3D printing technology, a team of doctors has custom designed facial implants to specifically fit her face, allowing her a life changing operation. But she’s not the only beneficiary. Carte Blanche explores this cutting-edge medical advancement.

There is a storm brewing over the Langebaan Lagoon. Locals claim that an area of over 800 hectares, proposed for fish farming, will kill off a flourishing and buoyant tourism economy that has created at least 3000 jobs in this west coast town. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry disagrees, and they are pushing ahead with their plans. Locals say they are prepared to take their fight all the way to court, and have organized themselves into an action group, determined to save the Langebaan lagoon. Carte Blanche investigates.

Full Steam Ahead
From Pretoria to Cullinan, steam trains are bringing back the romance and nostalgia of yesteryear. “Friends of the rail”, is a group of railway enthusiasts restoring old locomotives back to their former glory to preserve their place in the history of rail in South Africa. Carte Blanche hops aboard one of these glorious old steamers.
