When war is waged and planets need to be saved, there is bound to be a fight for survival, and that’s exactly what Ster-Kinekor is bringing to the big screen this July.

War for the Planet of the Apes

Experience the latest in digital projection and sound technology with the first release, on 14 July is War for the Planet of the Apes in 3D. The 2K and 4K projection allows you to look into Caesar’s eyes . . . and his soul . . . as he struggles with inner conflict. This is going to be the story that is going to cement Caesar’s status as a seminal figure in ape history.

The third chapter of the blockbuster franchise, sees Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. The film stars Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn. Your ears will be buzzing as the surround sound delivers war cries, shots fired, explosions and armies marching Go on an emotional journey as Caesar and the Colonel face off in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

The film’s run time is 140 minutes with a rating of PG 13. War for the Planet of the Apes will be showing at all Ster-Kinekor sites nationwide.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Next up is Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which will show in IMAX for one week only from 21 July – 27 July, so upgrade your movie outing and experience the dark force like never before. The film is directed by the legendary Luc Besson, known for creating breath-taking visuals that can only be fully appreciated with state-of-the-art cinema technology. The film is based on the French science fiction comics series Valérian and Laureline.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is set in the 28th century, and tells the story of Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne), a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment, the pair embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis where species from across the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence, and culture. However, at the centre of the planet lies a dark force, which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets. Experience this action, adventure, sci-fi movie in 3D, with its unrivalled visual clarity, you will feel like you have joined the two operatives in the race to identify the evil menace and save the universe.

The film’s run time is 137 minutes. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will be showing at Ster-Kinekor sites nationwide.
