COJ Billing Blunders II

For years, the City of Johannesburg’s rates, water and electricity billing system has been in absolute chaos. Residents were frustrated by exaggerated estimates, incorrect readings and system errors but three months ago, the municipality – under a new local government – promised that it would finally resolve the City’s outstanding billing issues.  Carte Blanche returns to examine whether those promises have been fulfilled.

Aeroswift

3D printing is the new buzzword in manufacturing. Initially just a toy for hobbyists and a tool for prototyping, it’s now increasingly used for final-part production, especially in high-value, low-volume industries like aerospace – and South Africa is at the cutting edge. Carte Blanche meets the team behind Aeroswift, which is 3D printing titanium aeroplane parts – and AHRLAC, the locally designed and developed plane flying them.

Report Card: FNB Heists

In February this year, robbers raided several FNB bank vaults making off with assets worth hundreds of millions of rands. Now the bank is offering to settle and in some cases for a fraction of the value of the items stolen. This week, our Report Card tackles how the bank is reimbursing some of the victims and whether the Hawks are any closer to shutting down this syndicate.
