Coming Up On My Kitchen Rules SA: It’s The Semi-finals

My Kitchen Rules SA teaser
Crunch time in the semi-Finals!

This week on My Kitchen Rules SA, it’s the first semi-final show down! It’s a Johannesburg cook-off this Sunday, 26 November, as fiances Brent and Andrew square up against best friends Charnelle and Kerry in a three-course cook off. With only four teams left in the competition, the grand prize of R1 Million is almost within reach!

With the stakes being at their highest, the four teams now also have to impress four brand new guest judges, each with their own special set of expertise and international reputations. Joining the panel is caterer, chef and cookbook writer, Karen Dudley. Karen is well known for her popular eatery in Woodstock – The Kitchen, which is also the home of her catering business. This globe-trotting chef has worked in Washington DC, where she learnt the endless possibilities of food, as well as in England where she learnt how to “do” parties for England’s high society. Back home, she has cooked for the likes of Michelle Obama.

Next up is award winning sustainable and ethical chef, Vanessa Marx. Vanessa brings her vast international experience to the MKR judging panel, having completed her apprenticeship with celebrity chef Pete Goffe-Wood, and later travelling overseas to broaden her experience in the UK and Europe.

Joining Karen and Vanessa is restaurateur, award-winning chef, former MasterChef SA judge and cook book author, Reuben Riffel. Reuben’s restaurant, Reuben’s in Franschhoek, has ranked in South Africa’s Top 10 restaurants for three consecutive years, and his cook books have all been best sellers.

Lastly, MKR’s resident judges David Higgs and J’Something will be welcoming Lentswe Bhengu, a celebrity chef best known for his local television shows such as Africa on a Plate and Kasi Kitchen. Bhengu trained at the prestigious The Culinary Academy in the Cape Winelands, and has worked at some of South Africa’s top fine dining restaurants and catering companies too.

This week’s challenge is to cook a three-course meal, with only two hours allowed for preparation and an hour between each serving. The contestants have to plate eight identical servings of each dish, and will thereafter be scored an overall experience score from the expert guest judges as well as J’Something and David Higgs.

In this intense, nail-biting episode, who will make it to the finale and who will cook for the very last time in the My Kitchen Rules HQ? With a spot in the final episode of the series at stake, the contestants will all have to bring their A-game and nothing less.

My Kitchen Rules SA is broadcast every Sunday night on M-Net channel 101 at 18:00.
