King Kong Returns : The Fugard

Returns from 12 December
Now booking to 18 February

After an initial sold out 6 week season at the Fugard, King Kong returns by overwhelming public demand for the end of year holiday season. For those Capetonians who missed out, or who want to return with friends and family, the good news is that the Fugard Theatre has announced a return run for the holiday season from 12 December and bookings are now open through the Fugard Theatre box office on 021 461 4554 and Webtickets.

The musical portrays the life and times of heavyweight boxer, Ezekiel Dlamini and is set to the scintillating music of Todd Matshikiza with legendary songs such as “Back of the Moon”, “King Kong” and “Sad Times, Bad Times”. The 1959 production of South Africa’s first black musical was set in Sophiatown in Johannesburg in the late-fifties and was seen by 200 000 South Africans before transferring to London’s West End. Whilst remaining true to the original production, a world-class creative team and an all South African cast have revitalised King Kong for the 21st century, giving it new life.
