Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri : Review

Mildred (Frances McDormand), a mother personally challenges the local authorities to solve the horrific murder of her daughter, when months go by without any progress being made on the case, placing adverts on three billboards, and directly addressing the local police chief, Willoughby (Woody Harrelson – War for the Planet of the Apes, Now You See Me 2).

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is a meandering drama, well written with a talented cast. Testimony to this in the many times the film comes up in this years awards season. There is plenty of drama, yet there is a stark look at life and the humanity of a person, while living, or those who are gone.

There is a sprinkle of humour, both outright funny, and a little that is somewhat more dark. But all the while, at the core, there is a story to tell, and one that grips the viewer from the beginning.

The on-screen chemistry, and duelling by McDormand and Harrelson is something to behold in itself. adding another dimension to a story that is already multi-layered.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is a film not to miss, for the sheer devilment of it. The film opens 23 February 2018 in South African cinemas.
