Beauty has always been in the eyes of the beholder and the hilarious Amy Schumer puts a funky twist to this concept in her new movie ‘I Feel Pretty’ in cinemas 4 May 2018.
In recent years we have seen the concept of being, looking and feeling beautiful transform in the public realm. The personification of this word is slowly reforming, changing and becoming inclusive. Suitably titled ‘I Feel Pretty’ further emphasises to its audience that beauty is different, it’s colourful and it’s not defined. It’s a feeling.
Amy Schumer, who plays (Renee Barrett) is a woman who struggles with insecurities and feeling inadequate everyday of her life. She battles with the way she looks and her weight, which is heavily influenced by her surroundings. One day she has an accident in the gym, where she hits her head causing her to become unconsciousness for a short time. When she wakes, she sees her life completely different. Her whole outlook has changed and she all of a sudden feels confident, beautiful and ready to take on the world.
The movie, while a comedy, aims to send an important message to its audience which will mainly be targeted toward the young adult women, that being beautiful is not the way you look but rather the way you feel. It teaches self-confidence, self-empowerment and fights prejudice on beauty. I Feel Pretty shows women how to empower themselves, pursue their dreams, live fearlessly and flawlessly.
This was the exact objective directing duo Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn set out to achieve with the film. They are previously known for co-writing romantic comedy films such as Never Been Kissed, He’s Just Not That Into You and How to Be Single.
Other co-actors include British supermodel and actress Naomi Campbell, Michelle Williams and Busy Phillips whose chemistry on-screen deliver all the craziness, sadness and tons of laughter you will need.
