The Met: Live In HD – Luisa Miller Takes $1.28 Million In North America

The Met: Live in HD’s transmission of Luisa Miller took in an estimated attendance of 58,000 in North America, earning a gross of $1.28 million. It was seen live on more than 900 screens. An estimated additional 90,000 people saw it live on 800 screens in 37 countries in Europe, 11 countries in Latin America, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Jamaica, Morocco, Belarus and Ukraine.

Delayed showings throughout Asia, Australia, Madagascar, New Zealand and South Africa, and encore performances in North America and Europe, are expected to boost worldwide attendance of Luisa Miller to more than 280,000. The encore screenings in the U.S are on Wednesday, April 18; the encore screenings in Canada are on May 19, 21, and 23.

Luisa Miller starred Sonya Yoncheva in the title role opposite Piotr Beczała and Plácido Domingo, with Bertrand de Billy conducting the rare-performed Verdi opera, not seen at the Met in more than ten years.

The live transmission, hosted by Anthony Roth Costanzo, was directed for cinemas by Matthew Diamond.

The Met: Live in HD, the Met’s award-winning series of live transmissions to movie theatres and performing arts centres around the world, has expanded its worldwide distribution to more than 2,200 theatres in 73 countries this season and has sold more than 24 million tickets since its inception in 2006.

Luisa Miller was the ninth of ten live transmissions to be shown this season. The final transmission of the season will be the Met’s new production of Massenet’s Cendrillon (Cinderella) on April 28. Cendrillon stars Joyce DiDonato in the title role, with Alice Coote in the trouser role of Prince Charming, Kathleen Kim as the Fairy Godmother, and Stephanie Blythe as the imperious Madame de la Haltière.
