The Wild Ones: New Arrivals

Last week, in M-Net’s moving South African wildlife series The Wild Ones, viewers saw how Nandi and Thula, two of the youngest rhinos at the orphanage, continued their journey towards health, happiness and independence. We also met Muffin and Lesedi, who were being prepared to be released into the wild – after being cared for and rehabilitated for the last few years.

This week, there’s a new calf who needs the love and attention of the incredibly passionate team at the orphanage. Baby Jamila has been traumatised by the loss of her mother and the attack of ruthless poachers. Her arrival requires extraordinary attention to detail and with the assistance of the highly-trained anti-poaching unit, the team goes to great lengths to welcome her into a safe environment. It’s the beginning of another intense journey that will pull at the hearts strings of all animal lovers.

With the poaching rate in South Africa escalating, The Rhino Orphanage attracts volunteers from all over the world to help look after the endangered species. This week we will also meet some of the new volunteers who will be dedicating their time 24/7 to look after the young rhinos.

Tune in on Sunday, 27 May to check in on Nandi and Thula and to see if Jamila will adapt to her new home.

The Wild Ones is produced by Homebrew Films in partnership with WWF South Africa and BirdLife South Africa and will be broadcast on M-Net channel 101 every Sunday evening at 16:00. Viewers can also visit www.mnet.tv/wildones to enter the competition where one lucky viewer stands the chance to win a prize from BirdLife South Africa valued at R500 and a hamper from the Struik Nature Club to the value of R5000.
