Day 4 of Theatre Week started off with an exciting scavenger hunt for the remaining 31 Idols contestants left at Wild Coast Sun in Port Edward.
The group dug around the beach to uncover a treasure chest containing CDs with their names and the songs the judges had chosen for their Solo Performance round; the last before their fate would be sealed.
The loot excited some, but left others in dread.
But it wasn’t just the song choice that brought butterflied to their stomachs. For the first time in their short singing careers, the contestants were about to take on a big stage under the watchful gaze of the judges and a theatre packed with an audience. It was showtime!
The only thing standing between them and a spot in the Top 16 was an intense 48 hours with vocal coaches.
Challenges arose soon with some of the aspirant singers buckling under the pressure. There were people who missed rehearsals by hours; others couldn’t grasp the songs and kept forgetting lyrics. Anxiety got the best of the jittery ones.
The audition finale on stage was a thunderous affair, with the audience giving spirited applause and standing ovations while the judges mulled over their verdicts at the back of the theatre. Singers were not given any feedback, leaving them to await their fate on the final day of Theatre Week.
Who will walk the plank in glee and who will be gloomy? Find out in next week’s results show!
