Award winning actor and academic head of Act Cape Town, Grant Swanby, has spent more than 25 years working professionally in the entertainment industry. COURSE INFO:
Calibrating the acting instrument specifically for camera is vital for the modern actor. Understanding the language of film and the specific tools required, empower the actor to accurately deliver an engaging performance vital to the medium of film and television.

The course culminates in a filmed scene on location that may be used for show-reel and promotional purposes.

ACTING FOR FILM I – THE ACTOR & THE SELF
Coach: Michael Kirch

An experienced and respected actor and director, Michael Kirch has worked with many local actors, directing their stage productions. In 2012, he received a Fleur du Cap award nomination for Best New Director for Brent Palmer’s play “Bench”. Michael also works as a freelance casting director, directing and filming candidates’ audition tapes for film and television commercials.

COURSE INFO:
Understanding the self is fundamental to authentic performance. Transcending ego and connecting to truth enables the actor to relinquish fear, build confidence and embody honesty in performance. This course is designed for the new actor as well as the professional, looking for re- inspiration.

It culminates in the filmed performance of a scene and a monologue.

AUDITIONING FOR CAMERA
Coach: Uga Carlini

Multi-award winning filmmaker, Uga Carlini has fast become one of South Africa’s most versatile and celebrated directors. Her extensive film experience, both in front of and behind the camera, boasts a career that’s stretched across South Africa, the United Kingdom, Australia and Fiji. Most recently, Uga brought home BEST DIRECTOR and BEST SCREENPLAY for her film “Alison” at the 2019 edition of the International Innovation Film Festival held in the Swiss capital of Bern.

COURSE INFO:

This course explores all aspects of a film audition. It includes the break-down of an audition script, call backs, acting technique and the practical exploration of the audition process.
Course culminates in a mock casting for playback and review.
