Santana Reaches #1 Position On Netflix Worldwide In First Weekend Of Release

Local film and TV distribution outfit, Gravel Road Distribution Group is delighted to announce that according to online resource FlixPatrol the action film SANTANA reached the number 1 position worldwide on Netflix in its first weekend of release. FlixPatrol reports that it trended at number one in 33 out of 74 territories around the world.

“This took us by surprise. We didn’t expect to hit #1 in the world, but we are very grateful for the support. It reflects well on the local industry,” says co-director Chris Roland. “This is a dream come true” adds co-director Maradona Dias Dos Santana, “This is what the world needs, more action films from Africa”.

The film is directed by Chris Roland and Maradona Dias Dos Santana and stars local actors Rapulana Sepheimo, Nompilo Gwala, and Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Angolan talent Paulo Americano, Raul Rosario Neide van-Dunem Vieira.

The high energy action film follows law enforcement brothers Dias (Paulo Americano) and Matias (Raul Rosario) as they chase down Ferreira (Rapulana Sepheimo), one of Africa’s most notorious drug lords. As they get closer to Ferreira, the brothers discover he is the same man that murdered their parents thirty-five years ago. But Ferreira has fled Angola to South Africa, and to get to him Dias and Matias must break the laws they were sworn to protect.

Santana was a South Africa / Angola co-production, filmed on location in Cape Town, South Africa and Luanda, Angola.
