M-Net Movies Presents A Pop-up Channel Shining The Light On Tom Cruise

M-Net Movies presents a pop-up channel with Hollywood’s ‘top gun’ Tom Cruise!

Cruise will control our DStv remotes from 20 March 2020

M-Net’s second pop-up channel for the year, M-Net Movies Presents Tom Cruise, is taking over channel 109 from 20 March 2020. As a special celebration to a magnificent cinematic career that has spanned four decades, DStv Premium audiences can enjoy almost every Tom Cruise film ever made – with thirty-eight movies featuring the Golden Globe winning mega star as a leading man or supporting actor. The earliest film in this Tom Cruise movie anthology curated by M-Net Movies is Taps from 1981 and the freshest addition is 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Cruise has carved out one of the most diverse and successful careers Hollywood has produced. Following his breakout performances in the teen comedy Risky Business, and as a testosterone-driven fighter pilot in Top Gun, blockbusters came thick and fast, such as Rain Man, A Few Good Men, Jerry McGuire, and the wildly successful Mission: Impossible series, to name just a handful. He has never been typecast; he can do it all.

The M-Net Movies Presents Tom Cruise Pop-Up Channel will start at 12:00 noon on weekends and will close around midnight. During the week, however, the Cruise films will be scheduled between 14:00 and midnight. With a variety of films on the channel, viewers can look forward to seeing the different types of Tom Cruise: Sporty Tom, Action Tom, Serious Tom, Sci-fi/Fantasy Tom and Sexy Tom.

Fans of The Mission: Impossible franchise also have to take note that these action-packed movies will be spread out over the first two weekends in prime time on channel 109 and will commence at 20:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. But on the last day of the pop-up on Sunday 05 April, there is a thrill-a-minute treat for viewers with back-to-back screenings of all the Mission: Impossible films. This movie marathon kicks off at 05:35 with Mission: Impossible and ends with Mission: Impossible – Fallout at 15:55.

“To date, M-Net Movies has entertained audiences with sixteen extremely popular Pop-Up channels and we predict that this one will be another winner,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “Tom Cruise is all the rage in 2020 and the channel leads-up to the much-anticipated Maverick, a sequel to Top Gun, a film that raised the bar in the action film genre by several notches.”

Maverick will hit the big screen 34 years after the original, which was the No 1 box office earner of 1986!

Remember, you can also enjoy these from your TV, laptop, tablet or cell phone on Dstv Now or DStv Catch Up. The titles will be available also on DStv CatchUp Plus via connected decoders for DStv Premium viewers.

Coming Up On Carte Blanche – 15 March 2020

Sunday 15 March 2020 at 19:00, only on M-Net

MONEY MATTERS

Counting the Costs of COVID-19

Now declared a global pandemic, the coronavirus is having a major impact on international financial markets. Uncertainty and fear of a worldwide recession sent stock markets spiraling down to new record lows. In South Africa, a trillion Rands in value was effectively wiped off the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in a single day, while US stocks fell 7% on Tuesday this week, forcing the US government to announce new economic measures to shore up the economy and lessen the impact of the virus. In Europe the Bank of England and the European Central Bank have both slashed interest rates in a in a desperate move to protect the UK and EU member states from the potentially catastrophic effect of COVID-19.

Meerkats Uncovered

Cute as babies, but terrors when full-grown – meerkats are wild animals and keeping them as pets, without a permit, is illegal. This hasn’t stopped some South Africans from getting them on the black market. Carte Blanche goes undercover to expose a pet trader who is buying and selling meerkats to eager buyers, keeping this illegal trade flourishing.

Producer: Stenette Grosskopf | Researcher: Laura Byrne | Presenter: Macfarlane Moleli

Forensic Nurses in Limbo

A forensic nurse in every health facility by March 2020 – that was one of the remedies President Cyril Ramaphosa set out in his Emergency Action Plan, responding to last year’s nationwide protests against increased sexual violence. These specialised nurses can collect physical evidence, counsel rape victims and testify in court to put rapists behind bars – but only if they are duly accredited. Carte Blanche investigates why the president’s promises are far from being realised and confronts the South African Nursing Council on its failure to accredit forensic nurses.

Producer: Mosibudi Ratlebjane | Presenter: Claire Mawisa

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Masa Kekana: “Without whistle blowers, sources and the work of investigative journalists, much of what we know today about the Arms Deal, State capture and Gupta Leaks wouldn’t be possible. But when there’s evidence that certain members of state security have abused the seemingly flawed RICA legislation to spy on some of these journalists, we should all be concerned.”

RICA: Privacy Under Attack?

The RICA legislation regulates the intercepting of communication – which a court has to order – to allow the state to listen in on the conversations of suspected criminals. Otherwise, two people talking on the phone have the right to privacy. So what happens when the government uses this legislation to spy on journalists? Carte Blanche retraces the events that have unfolded all the way to the Constitutional Court when investigative journalist Sam Sole found proof that he too was being spied on.

Producer: Julian Sun | Presenter: Masa Kekana

Marc And Marisia Get Steamy On The Bachelor SA

In this week’s sizzling episode of The Bachelor SA Cupid turned on the heat.

Bachelor Marc just couldn’t keep his hands off 24-year-old Afrikaans speech therapist, Marisia who was invited to a special one-on-one date in Maropeng. She may not have received the First Impression Rose, her first date may have been stolen by Pasha, and Qiniso may have bagged the first kiss – but – it was shy Marisia from Klerksdorp who was the first lady to experience an intense romantic connection with Marc.

To Marisia’s surprise, she was invited to the coveted one-on-one date for a second time, to “ride side-by-side” with Marc, who really wanted to get to know her better. The pair rode along to Maropeng, The Cradle of Humankind, where she was met with the most beautiful, romantic little date setup of cushions, roses, candles and blankets and not forgetting a stunning sunset as the backdrop. The couple got to know each other better emotionally, and then physically as the chemistry between them became increasingly intense… leading to a steamy and passionate encounter, that Marc eventually had to pull away from, admitting that he was getting “carried away”. Marisia, of course, went home with a rose, and Marc revealed in his diary session that there was perhaps too much chemistry for a first date. Does this make Marisia the new front-runner?

Back at the mansion, Marisia decided to keep all the juicy details of her date with Marc a secret, in fear of over-sharing with the ladies. The tactic may have worked, as Rikki said that no feathers were ruffled when Marisia walked in with a rose, as they don’t believe that they shared a connection. Well, surprise, surprise ladies!

The Bachelor mansion

Nolo and Bridget continue to be a topic of conversation in the house. Nolo attempts to make peace with Bridget but things take a turn for the worst as the rest of the girls jump in to confront Nolo about her stunt at the previous Cocktail Party. Bridget feels as though Nolo is the root of the problem and was seeking attention, and should be the one apologising. She eventually apologises to Bridget again, but, it wasn’t taken sincerely by Bridget, or any of the other girls, who have had enough of her antics.

Fun in the sun!

This week’s group date included a hunky shirtless Marc and six sexy ladies in bikinis at a waterpark. Marc enjoyed an afternoon alongside Pasha, Rikki, Pi, Nolo, Jess.C and finally, Silke who had been waiting to be invited to a date, since receiving the First Impression Rose. Pasha seemed to have hogged most of the time with Marc during the date, but it was Silke who was invited for some breakaway time. Silke finally got her chance to tell Marc how she feels and get to know him better, which in turn earned her a rose and secured her position in the house for an extra week.

Queen Nolo takes over the Cocktail Party… again

After a week of drama and dates, the ladies decided that Andeline would be the first girl to have a chat with Marc at the Cocktail Party, given that she hasn’t had much time with him since her arrival. But, of course, Queen Nolo doesn’t stick to the pact and infuriates the ladies by grabbing Marc first, with total disregard of girl code. This sends fury throughout the house and leaves her isolated for the duration of the night. Trying to salvage the bad decision on her part, Nolo attempts to apologise to Andeline, who then has an outburst and tells Nolo off, declining the apology. In other drama, Silke and Qiniso have a tiff, over who’s turn it was to chat to Marc. Silke took an opportunity to chat to Marc, as she really wanted to kiss him and see if the chemistry was there, but Qiniso wasn’t pleased as she was supposedly next in line, and immediately went to Marc to expose Silke for being two-faced. How will this little feud end?

The Rose Ceremony

For the first time this season, Marc sent home three ladies at the Rose Ceremony. Two roses had already been handed out to Marisia and Silke during their one-on-one time, leaving just eleven roses up for grabs for another chance to vie for Marc’s heart. In the end, it was time for Pi, Nolo and Stefanie to say goodbye. Nolo was sad to leave, as she would have loved to fall in love while Stefanie and Pi had no hard feelings, as there was no connection between them and Marc.

The Corrupt Billionaire: Isabel dos Santos

With a fortune estimated at around US$2.2 billion, Africa’s richest woman Isabel dos Santos is under criminal investigation in her homeland. The BBC’s Panorama chronicles how the daughter of former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos has been exposed through the “Luanda Leaks” project, which saw around 715,000 documents like emails, contracts and accounts from 1980 to 2018 detail the billionaire’s business operations. “The Lost Boys of Bird Island” Withdrawn

Billed as an exposé of former National Party cabinet ministers taking coloured boys for illicit rendezvous to Bird Island off Port Elizabeth in the 1980s, the controversial “Lost Boys of Bird Island” book has now been withdrawn by its publishers. Unsold copies have been removed from bookstores. We reveal new evidence that suggests key events depicted in the book could not possibly have happened and speak to Barend du Plessis, one of the minsters named in media reports on the book, who has been given a formal apology for being linked to the allegations.

The Ladies Are Fast And Furious On The Bachelor SA This Week

After two episodes of courting and cocktail parties, there are eighteen gorgeous ladies left in The Bachelor SA mansion, vying for the heart of this season’s big catch – successful business man and down-to-earth international model Marc Buckner.

This week, the action and drama accelerates with a high-adrenaline group date, during which the ladies have to beat Marc’s time on a skid course in a Toyota Supra.

Only a few of the ladies were handpicked for this group date, however, and from them he will only choose one for a break-way one-on-one date. Who will it be, and will she receive a rose to continue her love journey?

Expect more fast and furious antics in the third episode of The Bachelor SA. The sharks are out – literally and figuratively spoken!

Reasons why you cannot afford to miss all the action:

The claws are coming out in one of the three bedrooms occupied by the ladies. What’s happening in the purple room? Will it spiral out of control and influence Marc’s decisions at the rose ceremony?
Who’s getting the first kiss?

The girls are starting to speak their minds about their competition. Jealousy can be nasty…

What’s the status with Silke, Pasha and Mulesa? Even though Silke received the First Impression rose after impressing Marc with a drawing of his beloved rescue dog Luna, they haven’t spent much time together since. After stealing Marisia’s first individual date, Pasha bowled Marc over. And, Marc called Mulesa “one of the most beautiful women he has ever met”!

And, will Greta survive another rose ceremony. It was a near miss for the vivacious nail technician at the previous two rose ceremonies.

The Bachelor SA Season 2 will be screened every Thursday at 19:00 on M-Net Channel 101. DStv Premium viewers can also catch all the romance on Catch Up, or stream the episodes live via their mobile devices on DStv Now.

Fans can follow all the breaking news around the show on the M-Net Website , and join the conversation with #TheBachelorSA on Twitter (@MNet), Instagram (@mnettv) and Facebook (@MNet).
