Cinemark Wins At The Most Awards 2018

Cinemark bagged the first place in the Cinema category at this year’s 10th Annual MOST Awards celebration, another win for the group for four consecutive years.

The MOST Awards is a celebration of excellence in the media sector. The winners were announced at a prestigious event on Thursday, 13 September 2018 at The Wanderers Club in Illovo, Johannesburg.

The MOST Awards recognises the ‘best of the best’ in the media industry and is based on independent, robust research conducted by Freshly Ground Insights (FGI). The survey provides an opportunity for media agencies and media owner sales teams to anonymously vote on the quality of the service delivery, knowledge and innovation of their counterparts based on various criteria.

“It is a great achievement for our team to have won this accolade for the fourth year running. Having been voted the winner in the cinema category again in 2018. This is testimony to the hard work and dedication of the sales team in a highly-competitive environment. We would like to thank the industry for paying tribute to our winning sales team with this award,” says Leslie Adams, Head of Sales of Ster-Kinekor Theatres, who accepted the MOST Award together with the Cinemark team.

The Cinemark team displayed determination and innovation in its approach in positioning clients’ brands on the big screen. Their success reinforces cinema as a captive media platform that delivers superlative audience attention and influences consumer behaviour towards advertised brands. The medium offers fewer distractions – in fact, research shows that adverts are regarded as part of the overall cinema entertainment package.

Through thorough understanding of their own platform, the Cinemark team translates this into gaining in-depth knowledge about client brands and focusing their efforts on offering solutions that achieve a client’s business objective or sales target. “Our unique approach of offering our clients different ways of buying cinema, results from our understanding of their specific requirements. We pride ourselves in creating highly targeted campaigns in cinema that guarantee audience numbers to provide business solutions,” added Adams. “Let us create a tailored cinema campaign for one of your brands or products to achieve a specific business goal, and we think you will be delighted with the results.”

Fairytale Revisited And A Father’s Love At Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau In May With Luisa Miller (Verdi) And Cendrillon

The exhilarating Met Opera The 2017-18 Live in HD is drawing to a close, but as opera fans know, “it’s not over until the fat lady sings”! Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau will release Luisa Miller (Verdi) on 12 May 2018; and Cendrillon, on 26 May 2018.

Head to the nearest Cinema Nouveau and select Ster-Kinekor theatres where opera comes alive and tenors and sopranos touch your soul even after the final curtain call.

Luisa Miller (Verdi)

Showing for the first time in HD, Italian opera music composer Giuseppe Verdi’s Luisa Miller isn’t just a classic tale of lovers torn apart. It explores Walter Miller’s (Tenor Plácido Domingo) love for his daughter Luisa Miller (Soprano, Sonya Yoncheva) and the lengths he will go to protect his child and how a daughter will go to the ends of the earth to save her father. The opera set flits between a humble, village house and a palace. When Luisa falls in love with Rodolfo, the son of local lord, Count Walter, plenty of conspiracy, deception and tragedy is thrown into the mix to satisfy drama-lovers. Conductor Bertrand de Billy hits every note perfectly, with a musical pulse that both syncs with, and adds depth to the emotive narrative.

Screening date: 12 May 2018.

ESTIMATED RUN TIME: 3 HOURS 28 MINUTES WITH TWO INTERMISSIONS

Cendrillon (Massenet)

Cendrillon (Cinderella) is a ‘fairy tale’ opera performed in four acts by French composer Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Henri Caïn. It is based on French author Charles Perrault’s 1698 version of Cinderella, one of the most popular, modern-day fairy-tales. Cendrillon is ill-treated by her step-mother and step-sisters, but thanks to her Fairy God Mother (Kathleen Kim) she attends a Gala Ball where Prince Charming (mezzo-soprano Alice Coote) is ordered to find a wife. Coote plays the prince in a breeches role, dressed in male clothing. Cendrillon attends the ball and leaves a glass slipper behind in a race against the clock. The Prince seeks out woman, who enchanted him at the Ball and an emotional rollercoaster ensues.

Conductor Bertrand de Billy perfectly executes music that captures the melancholy of the prince

and Cendrillon as they pine for each other. Prepared to be surprised because the opera takes some twists and turns that gives a different perspective on the classic fairytale.

Screening date: 26 May 2018

ESTIMATED RUN TIME: 2 HOURS 47 MINUTES WITH ONE INTERMISSION.

All films will show at Cinema Nouveau and select Ster-Kinekor sites: Rosebank Nouveau, Gateway Commercial, Brooklyn Nouveau and V&A Waterfront Nouveau. At Somerset and Blue Route Mall in Cape Town, Bedford Square in Johannesburg and Garden Route Mall in George.

“The Stranger’s: Prey At Night” Creeps Into Cinemas This Friday

~ Are you scared of Stranger’s? ~

Described as brutal, unsettling, and remarkably relevant. The second instalment of The Stranger’s: Prey at Night will slowly make its way into cinemas on 20th April 2018. Make you don’t let this one pass you by.

Director Johannes Roberts brings only the most visually stimulating horror experiences to the forefront. The haunting opening song called “Kids in America,” made famous by Kim Wilde in 1981, throws the audience right in at the intersection of madness and indifference. At which point Roberts introduces the new protagonists — Cindy (Christina Hendricks) and Mike (Martin Henderson) and their teenage kids Kinsey (Bailee Madison) and Luke (Lewis Pullman).

The movie promises to keep the attention of the audience through its commitment of presenting horror to the most mundane through relentless seclusion, heightened by a haunting soundtrack of otherwise harmless songs (including Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now”), that blurs the line between danger and peace, agitated by the aimlessness of the villains and the trivial rebellion of the young characters.

Will they survive?
Classification: 18HLV
Running time: 85Mins
Genre: Horror
