Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom Wins Audience Award At Aspen Film Festival

Following the critical acclaim received at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, the film, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom won the coveted Audience Favourite Feature Award at the Aspen Filmfest in the United States, it was announced last night.  The film emerged as the most popular film at the Festival in an aggressive competitive environment which included films like The Fifth Estate, August: Osage County, Nebraska and One Chance.

The Aspen Filmfest, which is an affiliate of Aspen Film, one of Colorado’s most active film arts organizations, is an internationally recognised film festival.

Commenting on the award, Producer of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, Anant Singh said, “Even though the Aspen Filmfest is a small festival it is very prestigious.  It has the best of the line-up for Oscar contenders for the year end in the run up to the 2014 Academy Awards.  This year, the line-up included Alexander Payne’s comedy Nebraska starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte; Bill Condon’s thriller The Fifth Estate based on WikiLeaks starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange and John Wells’ drama August: Osage County which stars Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. We are delighted that Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom came out tops, especially in contention with these quality films.”

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom will be released in South Africa on 28 November 2013 through United International Pictures.
