Following a previous incident, Xander Cage (Vin Diesel – Guardians of the Galaxy, Furious 7, Riddick) is left for dead. However, agency many Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson – Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, The Legend of Tarzan, Avengers: Age of Ultron) is secretly recruiting more Triple X members. Following a new threat to the globe, Xander is brought back to chase down a device that can control satellites, and kill countless innocents.
Chasing after Xiang (Donnie Yen – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Serena Unger (Deepika Padukone), Cage teams with Adele Wolff (Ruby Rose – Resident Evil: The Final Chapter) and friends to put a stop to this menace, save the day, and look cool in the process. Extreme sports, stunts and fights are all on the menu for this over the top action storyline.
xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is simply a film to go watch when you want to escape. There’s shooting, there are over the top stunts, far too many set-ups for one line cliche dialogue, and total mindless shooting and explosions. If that’s what you’re going for, that’s what you get; nothing more, nothing less. But, who doesn’t need some escapism at some point? There are enough guys and girls to ogle. And enough of a variety of said guys and gals to satisfy most peoples visual taste.
As for plot, it’s very thin. Basically just a set up to allow for all the actions sequences. No twists, no huge setup, the film jumps straight in, and gets on with business.
xXx: The Return of Xander Cage makes no bones about what it is, an action film, with action scenes, for action fans. The film opens 3 February 2017 in South African cinemas.
