MKRSA: Lani And Louzel’s Farm-style Feast or Flop?

Lani and Louzel: farm-style feast or flop?

This week on My Kitchen Rules SA, it’s the turn of mother-and-daughter duo Lani and Louzel to host their eight fellow competitors and celebrity guest judges David Higgs and J’Something at their generations-old family farm in Cradock, Eastern Cape. Will the slow pace of farm life encourage everyone to drop their guard, or will the competition remain as fierce as ever?

“I’m looking forward to serving good, hearty farm food,” Louzel revealed. But how will this pair take humble, rustic-style cooking to the next level?

“We’re going to pull out all of the stops and show them true Karoo hospitality, and bring a generation of knowledge to this competition,” Cradock mom Lani said confidently. Their fellow competitors are also looking forward to some typical South African farm-style cuisine: “I’m hoping for a warm farm stew or some delicious soup!” Claudia squealed. With her and Bruce’s score of 72 out of 100 firmly at the top of the leader board, they can sit back, relax and enjoy this Instant Restaurant – for now. Food dudes Rein and Rowan, on the other hand, will desperately be hoping that Lani and Louzel put a foot wrong in the kitchen this week, as they come closer to the reality of an elimination as their spot at the bottom of the board still hasn’t shifted.

But it will take more than one mistake from the close-knit Lani and Louzel to ease Rein and Rowan’s fears. This familial team has never been shy to share their extensive food knowledge around the table, as they are used to processing all of their own ingredients – from growing a vast array of vegetables in their garden to butchering their own meat on the farm. While they’re clearly au fait with the “farm to table” style of eating, it was revealed last week that this is clearly where their comfort zone starts and ends, however. While dining at Bruce and Claudia’s Instant Restaurant – which garnered the current top score on the leader board – it became clear that the Karoo ladies are not familiar with any type of fusion food. Could this be their downfall later in the competition?

As we’ve come to expect from Bloem besties Liz and Leanne, they will bring their critical eye to every detail of this week’s Instant Restaurant – not least because they too are farm girls from the Free State! Nothing seems to get by them, so Lani and Louzel will have to keep their eye firmly on the ball – and the prize – if they’re to meet the high expectations of their fellow home cooks and the judges.
