Woodwind: The extraordinary work by Fin Manjoo, Woodwind, is a deep journey of a doubter, a composer who would rather believe in his own madness than the existence of the extraordinary. The feature film, made in India and South Africa, and was shot by Swiss cinematographer Nicolas Joray (The Yellow Star, Bye Bye Berlusconi and Baltic Storm), who’s three decades of experience was invaluable during the most challenging conditions in India. Gracie:  Director Liana Hassimtells the story of Gracie, a Zulu girl born to a mother who was not ready to have a child. Gracie’s world view shows the harshness of the city of Durban in the grip of xenophobic attacks, but her child-like point of view creates an artistic world of sketches which make some sort of sense of beauty out of the apparent chaos.

Limits: This short documentary tells the story of a severely mentally challenged 30 year old woman who has had major limitations placed on her ability to achieve goals which would be considered easy for most of the population. Imagine her taking part in the New York Marathon.  It is a dream which all of us would give absolutely no chance of success at all. This is Donna’s story.

The Recce:  Ferdinand van Zyl’s South African war movie features a stellar cast:  Marius Weyers, Christia Visser, Greg Kriek, Elsabe Daneel, De Klerk Oelofse , Maurice Carpede, Grant Swamby and Albert Maritz. After the SADF wrongfully declares young RECCE Henk Viljoen dead behind enemy lines, it’s up to him alone to use every skill and tool in his arsenal to make it back to his grieving wife.

Indoda:  John Warner directed this story of Vuyisa, a young boy on the eve of his Xhosa initiation rite who makes a decision causes his life to spin out of control. With no friends or family to turn to he is all alone in the wilderness. Through the healing embrace of nature and some odd -ball characters he meets along the way, he grows emotionally and ends up confronting the age-old question of what it means to be an “INDODA” – A MAN.

Matwetwe:  Kagiso Lediga’s crime-comedy film fuses local oral storytelling traditions to the American indie ethos and tells the story of Lefa, whose life is on the cusp of major change.
