Best of Africa Female Acts Headline “Africa Day Groove” This Weekend

This Saturday, 29 May 2021, at the Soweto Theatre, Sound Proprietors will host Africa Day Groove – an all-day family event with ingenious products from Art and Craft market, tasty meals from Food stalls and a line-up consisting of seven proudly and unapologetically African bands and artists making waves in the global arena.

Exciting acts on the programme include the acclaimed Urban Village, who have perfected the art of South African folk music layered with electric, funky acoustic melodies and a blend of traditional influences. Maleh who is recognised for her heartfelt love ballads. Self-taught and experimental artist Afrika Cele who has performed with well-known musicians such as Yvonne Chaka, and Soweto born Kitchenmess who recently did a record with DJ Darque’s album titled “Must be Africa”.

The event line-up will be completed by an assembly of DJ’s who have graced stages around the African Continent, affectionately known as Sumthin Brown, BrownPepperAnn and Deniece Marz.

“We as Sound Proprietors are delighted to be bringing back the Africa Day Groove for 2021 in partnership with the Soweto Theatre. Albeit it is the new normal, we forge ahead with the -mandate that we have been given by our elders to remember them and heredities passed down through the Arts, Literature and Music. We are enthusiastic about this year’s line-up and we have purposefully set out to emphasize the worth and brilliance of the feminine energy. It’s evident through this year’s line-up that we want to highlight the transcendence of women and their ability to shine as they always do”, says Tshiamo Mosenyi, founder of Sound Proprietor.

The theatre encourages patrons to, “Make your way to The Soweto Theatre on the 29th of May as we Celebrate Africa Day with an all-day festival starting at 12PM-Till late. The festivities will include a colourful arts, craft and food Market with local exhibitors showcasing a variety of delicious cuisines. This will be punctuated by good music, an aroma of delicious food and great company where you can pick up some excellent, unique local crafts and fashion”.

The event promises to celebrate the diversity of Africans, through the shared common love of music which has the ability to bring people together throughout the continent.  The event organisers intend to use this diversity to unite and promote creativity, offering an opportunity for audiences to be more proud of being African.
