Be The First To See New Streaking Romcom “Kaalgat Karel”

Boondogle Films’ long-anticipated and highly acclaimed romcom, KAALGAT KARELis finally hitting cinemas on Heritage Day, 24 September 2021 and the cast and crew cannot wait to share this hilarious film with local audiences.

For this reason, they have decided to give fans the opportunity to see it first with sneak previews at participating cinemas, nationwide, on 18 September and 19 September 2021.

“It has been super-frustrating having to postpone the release of KAALGAT KAREL twice. But the new timing is excellent,” says director Meg Rickards, who co-wrote and produced the feature with husband Paul Egan. “Things are opening up; people cannot wait to get out and we think a fun fliek is more needed than ever, because the past eighteen months have been full of sadness and loss. Funnily enough, as we count the days, we are feeling a bit like how streakers must feel before they go for it – nervous and excited at the same time!”

This tummy-tickling motion picture, starring Francois Jacobs (Donkerland, Vir die Voëls, Pad Na Jou Hart) and Christia Visser (Tess, Ballade vir ’n Enkeling, Hollywood in my Huis), has already impressed overseas critics and movie enthusiasts and won awards at several prestigious international film festivals, including Best Feature Film, Best Romantic Comedy, Best Produced Feature Film Screenplay and Best International Production.

KAALGAT KAREL tells the heart-warming story of Karel Venter (Jacobs), a thirty-year-old guy who loves the thrill and accompanying social media stardom of streaking during sports matches. He falls head-over-heels for the paramedic, Rita (Visser), who saves him after a streak gone wrong, but there’s a problem; she’s a strait-laced single mom who has no interest in his streaking shenanigans.

Aside from brilliant cinematography by Bert Haitsma, the movie also boasts a star-studded cast that includes Siv Ngesi, Tracey-Lee Oliver, Rosebelle Clasen, Eden Classens and comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout, who agrees that this feelgood movie is just what the doctor ordered. “KAALGAT KAREL has nothing to do with Covid and was filmed before the pandemic was a thing. I think we all need something light and humorous to make us feel good, that has nothing to do with sanitizer or masks,” he explains. “You will also get to see a lot of Francois Jacobs’ butt throughout the movie,” he adds with a twinkle in his eye.

Furthermore, KAALGAT KAREL also features English sub-titles, an impressive music score by Loki Rothman and a cheeky theme song by Jack Parow, Altyd Op Vakansie.

It is locally distributed by Filmfinity (Pty) Ltd. and was produced in cooperation with kykNET, the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council (ECPACC), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and its brand integration partners, Galito’s, Red Alert and the Hathaway Group of Guesthouses.
