Fransien Scott Releases A Beautiful Modern Ballad “Roei”

ust like a gripping novel, a good song should also be able to keep you captivated until the end… which is something Fransien Scott was able to achieve with her latest single, ROEI.

This beautiful modern ballad tells the story of a wife who loses her husband when a fishing expedition goes wrong.

“Hope is everything in times of hardship. This song is an embodiment of the hope we can experience during deep suffering,” she explains about the inspiration behind this meaningful track. “It is romantic, and the catchy chorus invites you to sing along.”

According to Fransien, who will be relocating from Britain to Portugal soon, the song was written in 1995 as part of an ATKV Song Workshop led by Lucas Maree. It was produced by Helmut Meijer of Stonebear & Mayor and was originally sung by her group, Niche.

“At the time, Lucas Maree challenged us to write about something meaningful to create authentic lyrics. I was immediately inspired to write a beautiful intimate love story that remains hopeful even when faced with the theme of death,” she shares.

The idea for the music video, which is set in a small coastal town in the Cape, is something she has been carrying with her for years and depicts the romantic relationship of a couple. “Intimate scenes of the couple’s memories together, and him bringing her stones from his travels, are followed by the heart-breaking realization that she lost her husband when she collapses on a deserted beach. The story ends full of hope when their son follows in his father’s footsteps by throwing fishing rods over his shoulder and also brings his mother stones from the ocean.”

Although it was filmed in the west of the Algarve, it looks just like the Cape and the team went out of their way to ensure the perfect end result.

ROEI follows in the footsteps of her previous single, Staan Reg which currently features on several local radio stations.

Fransien grew up in a musical home and worked as a teacher after school before moving overseas with her husband.

After living abroad for nearly two decades, she admits that she is still passionate about Afrikaans and that she misses her friends and family dearly. That is why she is planning to visit South Africa soon.

ROEI is soul food in a time when hope is needed all over the world.

Fransien Scott Reik Pragtige Moderne Ballade Uit
