South African co-production \u201cThe Salvation<\/a>\u201d has been selected for a Gala Screening at\u00a0the 67th Cannes Film Festival which takes place from 14 \u2013 25 May this year.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

The film is a classic Western set in 1870s America when a peaceful American settler kills\u00a0his family’s murderer which unleashes the fury of a notorious gang leader. His cowardly\u00a0fellow townspeople then betray him, forcing him to hunt down the outlaws alone.<\/p>\n

Helmed by legendary Danish director Kristian Levring, the film stars European superstar\u00a0Mads Mikkelsen who is supported by a formidably talented cast including Eva Green,\u00a0Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Mikael Persbrandt, Michael Raymond-James and Jonathan\u00a0Pryce.<\/p>\n

South Africa\u2019s Spier Films worked with renowned Danish production company Zentropa\u00a0to set up this Danish-South African-UK co-production.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very proud of this film and all the work and craftsmanship that was put in by\u00a0South African crews,\u201d says Spier Films producer Michael Auret.\u201dThis film is a testament to\u00a0the high quality work that South African crews can achieve in all departments. It was a\u00a0great privilege to work on a Western which was a childhood dream of many of us and\u00a0we certainly learnt a lot from Kristian Levring\u2019s approach ot making the film\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Salvation\u201d was entirely shot near Johannesburg in 2013 and involved 4 months of\u00a0construction and preparation followed by a 2 month shoot.<\/p>\n
