The director paints a compelling, unadorned and humane portrait of a harsh and neglected corner of the world, providing a non-judgmental and trusting space for her characters to reflect on their own choices and on the social inequity and spirals of violence that pervade their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prize includes $2000 towards their next production and an invitation to attend the Dortmund Cologne International Women\u2019s Film Festival 2022 in Germany, where their film will be screened.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is an honour for me and my team to receive this award at the Encounters Festival,\u201d said Macky speaking from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. \u201cThe film itself is the result of an \u2018encounter\u201d between me and a newspaper that painted a bleak picture of the youth of my hometown without any glimmer of hope. Aicha is not only a courageous woman filmmaker but also a leader in her country\u2019s film community leading the change that young people are yearning for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Produced by Clara Vuillermoz (Point du Jour-Les films du balibari) Ousmane Samassekou (Tabous production), Erik Winker (Corso Film),&nbsp;<strong><em>Zinder<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;will be screened at the Durban International Film Festival (22 July to 1 Aug), along with&nbsp; another Generation Africa film,&nbsp;<strong><em>The Last Shelte<\/em><\/strong><em>r<\/em>&nbsp;directed by&nbsp;Malian director Ousmane Samassekou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Generation Africa&nbsp;<\/em>is the latest collection being produced by STEPS with 25 films in co-production with 16 countries across Africa.&nbsp;<em>Generation Africa<\/em>&nbsp;brings together a collection of stories reflecting the lived experiences of Africa\u2019s youth through the topic of migration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Generation Africa film\u00a0Zinder\u00a0directed by A\u00efcha Macky won the Ladima Foundation\u00a0 Adiaha Award\u00a0for Best Documentary Film by an African woman at this year\u2019s\u00a023rd\u00a0Encounters South African International Documentary Festival on Sunday, 20 June.
