There\u2019s a new singing sensation in town! Super talented, Simone Govender packs a powerful message with her brand-new upbeat pop song, NEED TO BE YOURS<\/em><\/strong>, and makes one think about how radically different the world would be if each of us actually acted like we all had inherent value. \u201cWe often depend on others to love us in order to feel like we are enough,\u201d<\/em> explains Simone, \u201cbut the truth of the matter is that we are enough just the way we are.\u201d<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This incredible new song, written by the singer with the assistance of Nick Jordaan (Rubber Duc) and Hugo Ludik (ADAM), came about in response to what is happening in the world. \u201cWith the arrival of the global pandemic, the live music scene started dying, and artists were suddenly out of a job. I was starting to lose hope,\u201d<\/em> says Simone.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHowever, I am someone who struggles to let things go and I always tend to overthink a situation. I kept saying I was over a specific situation, but my mind kept drifting back to it. I saw it as an opportunity and presented my idea to Nick and Hugo, who helped me capture my thoughts and feelings, turning it into an incredible song.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working on NEED TO BE YOURS,<\/em><\/strong> turned out to not only be a great experience, but it also reignited Simone\u2019s hope. An added bonus for the young musician is that she had the opportunity to work with one of her favourite bands, Rubber Duc, in the process.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although she is not willing to reveal too much, Simone says there is a music video in the pipeline for the track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simone was born in Durban but moved to Johannesburg as a child. She started piano lessons at the age of five and picked up the guitar when she was fourteen. It was then that she realised that she wanted to make music for a living.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After school she studied psychology, graduating in 2017. That same year she started pursuing music full time. Since then, the singer has performed with artists such as Jesse Clegg, GoodLuck, Rubber Duc, Bad Peter, Majozi, Desmond and the Tutus, and many more. She has also played at festivals such as Splashy Fen \u2013 a career highlight, she says \u2013 and Afriski, as well as at various venues across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simone says that worship has had a huge influence on her love for music, as she believes that it not only brings different people together, but that it gives people a voice, a form of expression and freedom. This relates closely to her favourite quote by Edgar Winter: \u201cMusic is very spiritual; it has the power to bring people together.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has also always regarded music as a form of communication and expression. \u201cI could always count on a song to pin down exactly how I felt. The fact that music allows me to do the same for other people pushes me to write and create the artform.\u201d<\/em> As for musical influences, she looks to Ed Sheeran. \u201cBesides his incredible vocals and live performances, his songwriting is truly inspiring.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to working on her music \u2013 Simone plans to release an EP in the next year \u2013 she is keen to travel and share her music with the world (once she is able to safely do so, of course). At the moment, though, she stays busy by tutoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although she is a relative newcomer to the scene, NEED TO BE YOURS<\/em><\/strong> proves that Simone has staying power. A feel-good song with relatable lyrics that will get listeners on their feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Di\u00e9 ongelooflike mooi liedjie, wat sy saam met Nick Jordaan en Hugo Ludik (ADAM) geskryf het, was haar reaksie op wat besig is om in die w\u00eareld te gebeur. \u201cDie Covid-19 pandemie het die musiekbedryf waar getref en ewe skielik het musikante nie meer werk gehad nie. Ek het begin hoop verloor,\u201d<\/em> s\u00easy. \u201cEk is egter iemand wat sukkel om dinge te laat gaan en oordink elke situasie. Ek het aanhou s\u00ea dat ek oor \u2019n sekere situasie was, maar het aanhou dink daaroor. Ek het dit as \u2019n geleentheid gesien en my idee met Nick en Hugo gedeel. Hulle het my gehelp om my gedagtes en gevoelens te verwoord en te omskep in \u2019n wonderlike liedjie.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Om NEED TO BE YOURS<\/strong><\/em> op te neem was nie net \u2019n wonderlike ervaring nie, maar het ook vir die sangeres hoop gegee. Dit was ook vir haar \u2019n groot voorreg om saam met een van haar gunsteling-groepe, Rubber Duc, hieraan te werk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alhoewel sy nog nie te veel wil verklap nie, vertel Simone dat daar ook \u2019n musiekvideo vir die liedjie beplan word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simone is in Durban gebore, maar het as kind reeds Johannesburg toe getrek. Sy was vyf toe sy met klavierlesse begin het en het begin kitaar speel op veertien. Dit was op hierdie stadium wat sy besef het dat sy musiek wil maak vir \u2019n lewe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Na skool het sy sielkunde studeer en haar studies in 2017 voltooi. In dieselfde jaar, het sy voltyds met musiek begin. Sedertdien het sy al saam met groot name opgetree soos Jesse Clegg, GoodLuck, Rubber Duc, Bad Peter, Majozi, Desmond and the Tutus, en vele meer. Sy was ook deel van feeste soos Splashy Fen \u2013 wat volgens haar \u2019n loopbaanhoogtepunt is \u2013 en Afriski, asook by verskeie groot plekke regoor die land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Simone het lofprysing nog altyd \u2019n groot invloed op haar liefde vir musiek gehad, aangesien sy nie net glo dat dit mense nader aan mekaar bring nie, maar ook dat dit mense \u2019n stem en die vryheid gee om hulle self uit te druk. Dit sluit nou aan by haar gunsteling-aanhaling deur Edgar Winter: \u201cMusiek is baie geestelik; dit het die krag om mense nader aan mekaar te bring.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy het musiek nog altyd beskou as \u2019n manier om te kommunikeer en gevoelens oor te dra. \u201cEk kon nog altyd op \u2019n liedjie staatmaak om presies te s\u00ea hoe ek voel. Die feit dat musiek my in staat stel om dieselfde vir ander te doen, is wat my motiveer om te skryf en kuns te skep.\u201d <\/em>Ed Sheeran is haar grootste musiekinspirasie. \u201cBuiten vir sy ongelooflike stem en lewendige optredes, skryf hy ook baie inspirerende liedjies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simone het groot planne vir die toekoms, wat \u2019n kortspeelplaat insluit en sy wil oor graag reis om haar musiek met die res van die w\u00eareld te deel (wanneer dit weer moontlik is). Tans bly sy egter besig deur ekstra klasse aan te bied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alhoewel sy relatief nuut is in die bedryf, bewys NEED TO BE YOURS<\/strong><\/em> dat Simone \u2019n plek verdien. Hierdie goedvoel-liedjie, met sy relevante lirieke en lekkerluister-wysie, is nou beskikbaar op alle digitale platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
