Zaan Sonnekus<\/strong>, with his long dark hair and poetic lyrics, caused quite a stir in the local music scene with his hit, Ek Kan Net Bid<\/a><\/em>, which was released earlier this year and can still be heard on every big radio station in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the twenty-one-year-old rock sensation is back in the spotlight with an even more impressive song! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOOG<\/em><\/strong> is an alternative folk song, written by the Pretorian with his artistic collection of tattoos himself, and can be described as a hopeful feel-good song with darker elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLife is crazy. I think we are all still trying to find ourselves and get back on our feet during these difficult and complicated times. Sometimes you have to lose yourself to find yourself again,\u201d<\/em> he explains. \u201cThere are many ups and downs in life, and we often lie to ourselves, because we do not want people to know what we are feeling or going through. In this process, you end up pushing people away unintentionally. These people are also experiencing their own highs and lows and often cannot wait for you to get back on your feet.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the artist, the track was recorded with Tertius Human of CoolerBox Brothers and is closer to the sound he has also wanted to create than his previous releases. \u201cHOOG<\/strong> <\/em>is different from any of my previous songs, but definitely closer to the sound I wanted to create and I think it is something that everyone will enjoy,\u201d<\/em> he says. \u201cIt is a feelgood song, with relatable lyrics because we all experience highs and lows in life.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music video will be released in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOOG<\/em><\/strong> is the second single from his upcoming album, which is scheduled for release in October. \u201cI think I finally found my sound somewhere in 2020 and I am excited to share it with fans. This track is the perfect teaser for my upcoming album.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zaan grew up in Bloemfontein and has always loved music. After receiving his first guitar at the age of ten, there was no doubt in his mind about what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. That is why he decided to study Music Production at COPA after school, and he released his first single in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This soulful songwriter and versatile musician, with his leather jacket and unique voice, wants to create music with substance and revive the Afrikaans music industry\u2026 and with what we have heard from him lately, he is well on his way to achieving this goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
