{"id":13608,"date":"2021-11-19T14:44:24","date_gmt":"2021-11-19T12:44:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/?p=13608"},"modified":"2021-11-19T14:44:25","modified_gmt":"2021-11-19T12:44:25","slug":"academy-launches-global-digital-preservation-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2021\/11\/19\/academy-launches-global-digital-preservation-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Academy Launches Global Digital Preservation Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/academylogo.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"107\" height=\"107\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/academylogo.jpg?resize=107%2C107&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2445\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces the launch of the Academy Digital Preservation Forum (ADPF), a global online gathering place dedicated to exploring the latest issues surrounding digital preservation of motion pictures.\u00a0 An initiative of the Academy\u2019s Science and Technology Council, the forum hosts original content and resources and will serve as an ongoing discussion place for stakeholders and practitioners within the field and those interested in learning more.\u00a0 Visit the forum at <a href=\"https:\/\/academydigitalpreservationforum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">academydigitalpreservationforum.org<\/a>.<br \/><br \/>\u201cPreserving motion pictures \u2013 whether film or digital \u2013 is an imperative from both cultural and commercial perspectives,\u201d said Andy Maltz, Senior Vice President, Science and Technology Council.\u00a0 \u201cAs long as digital motion picture technologies evolve, there will be a need for collaboration between archivists, technologists and filmmakers.\u00a0 The ADPF provides a foundation for productive communication and problem-solving to ensure future generations can access the movies we enjoy today and those yet to come.\u201d<br \/><br \/>The ADPF\u2019s mission is to confront challenges facing the digital preservation field, encourage information exchange, and catalyze work towards sustainable solutions.\u00a0 By inspiring active participation from online community members, including Academy members, filmmakers, studio executives, archivists, operations professionals, technologists and other practitioners, the forum aims to reinforce the importance of digital preservation to modern filmmaking and help shape the future of this work.\u00a0 Resources include workflows, practices, technical standards, educational materials and critical research on digital preservation.<br \/><br \/>The forum will bring industry experts together to examine the state of digital motion picture preservation.\u00a0 This is the next phase of the Council\u2019s work in this area beginning with the publications of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/science-technology\/sci-tech-projects\/digital-dilemma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Digital Dilemma<\/a> in 2007 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/science-technology\/sci-tech-projects\/digital-dilemma-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Digital Dilemma 2<\/a> in 2012, the Council\u2019s two groundbreaking reports on the long-term preservation of digital motion picture materials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces the launch of the Academy Digital Preservation Forum (ADPF), a global online gathering place dedicated to exploring the latest issues surrounding digital preservation of motion pictures.\u00a0 An initiative of the Academy\u2019s Science and Technology Council, the forum hosts original content and resources and will serve as&hellip;
