A new trailer blasts off this morning for\u00a0Disney and Pixar\u2019s original sci-fi action-adventure \u201cLightyear<\/a>.\u201d Releasing June 17, 2022, the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear\u2014the hero who inspired the toy\u2014follows the legendary Space Ranger on an intergalactic adventure. \u201cBuzz\u2019s world was always\u00a0something I was excited about,\u201d said director Angus MacLane. \u201cIn \u2018Toy Story,\u2019 there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that\u2019s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further.\u00a0So my\u00a0\u2018Lighytear\u2019\u00a0pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz\u00a0Lightyear toy?\u2019 I wanted to see that movie. And now I\u2019m lucky enough to get to make it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining the previously announced Chris Evans, who lends his voice to Buzz, are Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi as a group of ambitious recruits. Peter Sohn voices Buzz\u2019s robot companion, Sox, and the cast also includes the voices of Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr. “The cast for \u2018Lightyear\u2019 is truly a dream team,\u201d said MacLane. \u201cEach of the performers immediately inhabited their character, which gave us the opportunity to play a bit during recording sessions. This resulted in a level of specificity that elevated the material and brought additional depth to the characters\u2019 relationships. Also revealed this morning, award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who\u2019s behind the scores for the upcoming film \u201cThe Batman,\u201d as well as \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home,\u201d is on board to score \u201cLightyear.\u201d Giacchino has a long history with Pixar; he won an Oscar, Golden Globe and GRAMMY for the original score in \u201cUp.\u201d His other Pixar credits include \u201cThe Incredibles,\u201d \u201cRatatouille,\u201d \u201cCars 2,\u201d \u201cInside Out,\u201d \u201cCoco\u201d and \u201cIncredibles 2,\u201d among others. The Lightyear Original Motion Picture Soundtrack<\/em> from Walt Disney Records will be available on June 17, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
