On Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2022, Showmax audiences fell in love with Sex in Afrikaans, as the eye-opening documentary series set a new record for the most first-day views of any Afrikaans title on Showmax ever, ahead of Devilsdorp. Viewing peaked at 8pm, once everyone had put their kids to bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sex in Afrikaans follows clinical psychologist Bradley R Daniels as he helps four Afrikaans couples and two singles to have shameless discussions about their sex lives for the first time publicly – and, in the process, discover that there is so much more fun to be had!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With six episodes that focus on sex workers, sex toys, porn, swinging, BDSM and fetishes respectively, the groundbreaking Showmax Original is a mind-expanding tour of what your neighbours and co-workers get up to behind closed doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The media is already buzzing about the controversial series, which carries an 18SNLV age restriction. Channel24\u2019s Gabi Zietsman gave Sex in Afrikaans five stars, calling it \u201can incredibly brave show\u201d and \u201ca great conversation starter, especially for anyone who doesn’t know how to start those talks with their partners\u2026 It creates a safe space both on and off the screen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rian van Heerden, who narrates Sex in Afrikaans and produces through Provoco, says, \u201cI think that every person who participated is a pioneer and is very brave indeed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This may be particularly true of married couple Brady and Tracy Fortuin, since they\u2019re both pastors\u2019 kids. \u201cI can only think about all the church aunties and uncles,\u201d laughs Brady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tracy says, \u201cWe decided to do the show because we are pretty open about our sex life and I think everyone who knows us, knows that. We do not really have hang-ups or things we don\u2019t talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as open as they are, Sex in Afrikaans was still a learning experience for the couple. \u201cI think everyone to their own degree thinks they are liberal until they meet other people who are more liberal than they are,\u201d says Brady. \u201cWe thought we were liberal until we got to all the toys and the rooms while filming Sex in Afrikaans. Yoh! There is a lot of latex!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While not everything appealed to them, they picked up some new ideas in the process. \u201cBefore we appeared on the show, I never thought we would be interested in flogging – until my wife and I started playing with the material on the show,\u201d Brady admits. \u201cWe discovered, \u2018Hey, it’s not bad; it’s actually quite nice!\u2019 So now we’re floggers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy advice is: Explore!\u201d says Tracy. \u201cEven if it’s just a little thing like buying a toy or doing a little sexting. Send him a message other than just, \u2018Bring milk and sugar.\u2019 Explore, communicate and just be consensual with everything. There are so many ways to explore. That’s what Sex in Afrikaans shows: everyone has a little tiger inside them; everyone has a secret flogger inside them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brady agrees. \u201cJust climb out of your box and see what is out there for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tracy says she hopes Sex in Afrikaans \u201ccauses some kak! Because it’s still so taboo to talk about sex in public or to sit down with your family and friends and talk about sex. So I hope Sex in Afrikaans stirs things up a bit, so people can start to become a little bit more open about the subject.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all, as Tracy memorably reminds us in the trailer, \u201cSeks is vir my kak lekker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
