He\u2019s also again nominated for Directing and Writing Emmys this year.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Large-JPG-Barry-S3.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Large-JPG-Barry-S3.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16090\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Large-JPG-Barry-S3.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Large-JPG-Barry-S3.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Henry Winkler earned his third Emmy nomination for Supporting Actor as Gene Cousineau, after winning in 2018. Winkler faces stiff competition this year from co-star Anthony Carrigan, nominated for the second time as fan favourite NoHo Hank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Season 3, which also sees Stephen Root and Sarah Goldberg return in their Emmy-nominated roles as Fuches and Sally, has a 100% critics\u2019 rating on <em>Rotten Tomatoes<\/em>, with <em>The Daily Beast<\/em> calling it, \u201cthe best show on TV\u201d; <em>Variety<\/em> hailing it as \u201ca masterpiece \u2026 funnier and sharper than ever\u2026 TV\u2019s most fascinating protagonist&#8221;; and <em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em> writing, &#8220;I&#8217;ve never seen violence like the violence on <em>Barry<\/em>. HBO&#8217;s hitman comedy is a legitimate thrillfest, and the new season has three of the best action scenes I&#8217;ve ever seen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with <em>Collider<\/em>, Hader revealed that the writing team gave <em>Barry<\/em> a shake-up this season.\u00a0\u201cThe equation of the show,\u201d he says, was always, \u201c\u2018This hitman goes to an acting class\u2019. Most shows, it\u2019s like, well, that\u2019s the equation, so don\u2019t mess with that, but it was like: \u2018We\u2019ve done a lot of this; we\u2019re going to start repeating ourselves.\u2019\u201d Hader says the structural changes were \u201cboth liberating and kind of terrifying\u2026 It became about almost kind of writing a new show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hader told <em>Collider <\/em>that one of the themes this season is forgiveness. \u201cSeason 1 was kind of \u2018I want to better myself\u2019 \u2013 Barry tries to get in touch with his emotions, and he does, but at a bigger cost. Season 2 was \u2018I can change my nature.\u2019 \u2026You know, <em>can<\/em> you change your nature? And now, Season 3 is this idea of, \u2018Well, those things\u2026 I don\u2019t know if those things work. Can I be redeemed?\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[Barry]\u2019s really up against the wall this season,\u201d Hader continued. \u201c[It\u2019s] the first time we really see him lashing out [at] people he loves. He\u2019s very vulnerable and cornered at the beginning of the season\u2026 Sally is at [a] career peak while Barry is at the lowest point he\u2019s ever been, which is really saying something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sally\u2019s success creates some relationship challenges. \u201c[Barry] and Sally are kind of not on the same wavelength,\u201d says Hader. \u201cTheir relationship\u2019s been kind of stale but neither of them wants to call it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Season 3, Barry discovers that there are some things he can\u2019t shoot &#8211; or act &#8211; his way out of.&nbsp; \u201cIn trying to change himself, he has to deal with all the consequences, and that really comes up in Season 3,\u201d says Hader. \u201cThe consequences literally come and find him,\u201d &#8211; with some help from Fuches\u2026&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, what we\u2019re all waiting for is the catch-up with Cousineau, following Season 2\u2019s devastating ending. Barry\u2019s former acting coach is \u201ca complete wreck,\u201d says Hader, \u201cand now, he\u2019s driven to get revenge, which is a big theme this season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps the most tantalising of this season\u2019s storylines belongs to NoHo Hank, who\u2019s trying to piece his operation back together against formidable opposition. \u201cThis season is a time where Hank begins to stand up for himself,\u201d says Hader. \u201cHe\u2019s now really starting to come into his own and understand that he has to take a stand in certain ways.\u201d But in his personal life, \u201cHank\u2019s in a terrible spot&#8230; He has a secret relationship\u2026 That was a big thing for the season: the kind of <em>Romeo and Juliet <\/em>storyline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s kind of shacking up with, uh\u2026 the enemy,\u201d Carrigan hints. \u201cYou\u2019re finding them in this kind of forbidden love.
