Devil\u2019s Peak<\/em>, the latest Deon Meyer adaptation, has begun filming in Cape Town. The crime thriller series stars a South African cast of celebrated names as well as up-and-comers, and is produced by Lookout Point and Expanded Media Productions in association with MultiChoice Studios and BBC Studios Distribution. It will premiere on M-Net Channel 101 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on Deon Meyer\u2019s acclaimed 2004 bestseller, which is the first in the Detective Benny Griessel novels, Devil\u2019s Peak<\/em> is a multi-layered crime thriller set within one of the most beautiful yet divided cities on earth: Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It follows talented but broken Detective Benny Griessel, tasked with tracking down a righteous vigilante killer whose crimes are capturing the imagination of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benny is played by Glasshouse\u2019s<\/em> Hilton Pelser, whose other credits include Moffie<\/em> and Kissing Booth<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Meanwhile award-winning Sisanda Henna, whose CV includes Trackers<\/em>, another M-Net Deon Meyer adaptation, as well as the Hollywood thriller Rogue<\/em>, plays grieving father Thobela Mpayipheli desperately seeking justice after the untimely murder of his son.<\/p>\n\n\n

Benny and Thobela are brought into the orbit of trapped mother, Christine (played by Arendsvlei<\/em>\u2019s Tarryn Wyngaard), who is willing to do anything to achieve a better life for herself and her daughter. The fates of these three characters become inextricably linked as the series builds to its explosive climax. Combining gripping tension with uncompromising authenticity, Devil\u2019s Peak<\/em> offers an original South African take on the investigative thriller for today.<\/p>\n\n\n

The series will be directed by multi-award-winning director Jozua Malherbe, whose credits include\u00a0Griekwastad<\/em>,\u00a0Justice Served<\/em>\u00a0and the M-Net dramatic thriller\u00a0Lioness<\/em>.\u00a0Rounding off the lead cast are Shamilla Miller (Girl from St. Agnes<\/em>), who plays Anna Griessel, Benny\u2019s wife,\u00a0and\u00a0Masasa Mbangeni (The Republic<\/em>,\u00a0Legacy<\/em>), who plays Mbali Kaleni, Benny\u2019s detective colleague.<\/p>\n\n\n

The series is written and created for television by Matthew Orton (Operation Finale, Moon Knight<\/em>), with award-winning Amy Jephta (Skemerdans<\/em>, Barakat<\/em>) joining as writer and Associate Producer. Orton, Laura Lankester from Lookout Point and Francis Hopkinson from Expanded Media are Executive Producers; while while M-Net\u2019s Executive Producers are Yolisa Phahle, Allan Sperling, Jan du Plessis and Supervising Producers Nicola van Niekerk and Wikus du Toit.Johann Knobel (Bad Sisters<\/em>, The Shadow Line<\/em>) is the Producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BBC Studios, who own Lookout Point, will also distribute the series internationally. South African Production Services are provided by Film Afrika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
